Focus Mode
-
I'd like to have a Focus Mode, i.e. a feature where
- no notifications are shown (except for calendar or clock events)
- no mails are shown
- all counters in the panels are zeroed.
- that optionally allows to disable / disable access to Mail and Feeds (without disabling the calendar as well).
- that optionally allows to block websites (e.g. accessing facebook, chats, whatever people do to distract themselves from work.)
The focus mode would always be enabled for a certain time.
It would also be interesting if it could be scheduled in calendar (i.e. no-distraction times). -
@jumpsq Nice idea, to mute all what distracts.
+1 I supportsthis. -
This is essentially an upgrade of the Pomodoro timer which Vivaldi already has - all it requires is a focus switch right there and an unobtrusive visual indicator that focus mode is on.

@WildEnte you mean Break Mode I suppose.

"Pomodoro timer" instead of "Break mode" would be a very weird typo, and focused work is very different than taking a break
A toggle on the break mode is another option I didn't consider.
I meant the Pomodoro timer: click the clock in the lower right hand corner where you can set timers, and one of the defaults is a Pomodoro timer. See https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tools/status-bar-clock/

I know about the clock and the timers for a couple of years already, thanks, but this is not what OP wants
. More like a customizable/better-working Break Mode, with every distraction disabled but the webpage to focus on (his job), or at least that is what I understand from his list:

@npro I think you brought up the break mode here and what @jumpsq as the OP wants or doesn't want is not up to us to decide.
I do think that the original request quite perfectly fits the pomodoro technique idea which is already supported by default by Vivaldi's timer feature. The break feature on the other hand is meant to make me stop working altogether instead of working focused with the browser, and does not have any timing associated with it.
But that is just my opinion, and the above is meant only to clarify, not to argue. In any case, I support that such a feature is implemented, whether as part of the existing break mode, the timer, or something else, because the suggestion very nicely corroborates the positioning of Vivaldi as a productivity tool.

Well, break mode for now does not include most of what is mentioned. It could be used to emulate my request if it worked on single workspaces or windows, but then I could use profiles right away. So I think pomodoro is a little closer and also fits the idea a little better, but I would really want to not have to manually activate it ever so often to stop distracting myself from actual work by answering mails and chat messages (
). Currently I sometimes just disable Mail and Calendar altogether, which somehow helps, but also cannot be done as easily (there is no possibility to toggle it via a shortcut).
I'm sure that there are addons for blocking access to distracting websites, so this might be a little bonus.I the end I would not really mind which way it is implemented exactly and you should feel free to just express and discuss some ideas here, but I still believe that for me it would be ultra cool to have pre-scheduled calendar entries to stop distractions. Like No-Notify mode on android.
