@gmg
And some of these:

This morning, there are more than 900 of the following errors:
[MAIL - imap] Error: Mailbox doesn't exist: INBOX.Later (0.001 + 0.000 secs).This one is interesting... (The Socket errors are fine btw, just losing internet when turning off computer and such)
Do you have a folder under INBOX called Later? Did you recently change languages so that maybe that mailbox is a different language now? -

I wasn't aware of any "Later" inbox folders prior to this discussion, but apparently I do have some. The MS Exchange account and 2 of the 3 dovecot/postfix accounts have a "Later" Inbox folder. There is nothing in any of them, and I am not aware of having ever used them.

@gmg Is there any progress on a resolution here? Do I need to open a separate bug report, or is reporting this here adequate?
-
@Th30philus
Reporting a bug would be nice just so you can receive an update on the bug itself and I can link it to this forum post -
@gmg I created 2 bug reports: one for the read status sync issue, and another for the deleted mail sync issue.

The problem with these errors is from the very beginning. That's why I don't use vivaldi mail. Other applications don't have this problem. I think they made a mistake in the project and now it's difficult to fix it.

@helixo
Hi, no errors at all with 5 different mail accounts, it kind of work.
Some user have issues and they should be fixed but hundreds of thousands of user use M3 all day without problems.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin What mail servers are you connecting to? Are any of them dovecot servers?
-
@Th30philus
Hi, not I am aware of, simply Outlook, Yahoo, Gmail, Freenet and some Vivaldi mail accounts.
My comment was to mention the mail client work, I know some user have problems but your thread is to erode why.
The mail developer gmg try all to help user with mail issues and I try with my small knowledge, too.Cheers, mib

Are you using Namecheap shared servers? (I'm wondering if the Namecheap dovecot server config is an issue. This seems unlikely, though, because other clients properly sync both read status and deletion of emails.)
Do you use Vivaldi on Windows 11? (I'm wondering if the Windows OS, environment, or Vivaldi Windows implementation may be at issue.)

And when a message is marked read locally, it remains not read on the server.
I read the bug report and I'd forgotten to ask...
Are you marking them as read or are you just opening them?
If so the messages aren't marked read until you mark them yourself or change the setting to mark them as read automatically.
We use the Unread message view as a kind of todo list so that you only mark them as read once you've finished dealing with it. You can use a shortcut like
g
(mark as read and go to next unread) ORk
(mark as read)You can read more about it here
https://tips.vivaldi.net/tip-49/https://help.vivaldi.com/mail/mail-get-started/view-and-manage-messages/#Message_read_status
-
I always mark them read with
k
and get also this behaviour -
@gmg Thanks for the tip. I was merely opening the messages, rather than marking them read. Manually marking as read or activating the automatic mark as read option does change the apparent status of the message within the local client. It now definitively looks like the message is read. But this still does not sync to the server, as @derDay noted.
-
@gmg Actually, I need to amend my last reply. Manually marking read status or through automatically marking read option seems to sync to my gmail account within a few seconds; and on my school's Microsoft hosted account, manual or automatic mark as read seems to sync, but takes several minutes.
The Namecheap dovecot servers seem to never sync read status marked by Vivaldi.
Note that the UI seems to have a small bug for the "Mark Read" toolbar icon tooltip. It always says "Mark unread" regardless of the status of the email or the icon on the toolbar.
It seems, then that the big issue is Vivaldi's interaction with the Namecheap dovecot servers, both with regard to deleted file syncing and read status syncing. As previously noted, this issue is not present in other mail clients (e.g. Spark), thus this seems to be a Vivaldi issue.

For the last week, Vivaldi Mail has failed to connect with any of my email accounts (2 Gmail accounts, and 5 from iPage-based website account).
I have installed the latest version of Vivaldi. To no avail.
Since in the past Vivaldi had "lost" the configuration of mail accounts a couple of times, I have checked the server configuration for all these accounts. They are all right.
And yet it is still impossible to send or receive email from / to any of these accounts.
I have also experienced the same inconsistencies with the marking of the Read / Seen emails, but I learned to simply ignore it.
Also, in the past it just seemed impossible to delete any email via Vivaldi. It would just pop up again.I have been using Vivaldi since its inception (and before that the Opera, the original Opera), and one of its fortes was it integrated email system. But bugs like these are about to discourage me from using it.
Because of this erratic behaviour of Vivaldi, I have lost important emails, I wrote messages that were never received...
Sorry, but Vivaldi Mail seems to be still in a Beta phase...
