crazy resource usage
-
I do not think Chrome is using that much processor, ram and disk space like vivaldi currently.

@AryanDevasagayaum
I really wish people would learn to use the Windows Task Manager properly instead of just showing the mostly irrelevant Process overview.Click the > arrow on Vivaldi to find the PID. If the PID column is not showing then add it.
Or use the Details tab in task manager, add the relevant columns for your problem (PID, IO read, IO write). Sort by usage and find the PID.
When you have the PID, compare to the Browser Task Manager in Vivaldi (Shift-ESC). Then you know what process is causing disk usage.
Are you downloading something?
1.2MB/s is not really a lot of disk usage, so either you have very slow disks or something is wrong on your system for it to show 100% with such little usage.Use the Performance tab in Task Manager to get more details on your disk IO.
-
@Pathduck Is it because my system is HDD and not SSD?
No I was downloading nothing, the high usage usually happens when I open news websites:
PID value is 7456
-
@AryanDevasagayaum said in crazy resource usage:
PID value is 7456
No point telling me, I'm not in your system
Find the PID in Vivaldi's Task Manager like I said. Then you know what process is causing resource usage.
Most likely it's the "Network Service" if you're downloading stuff. It could also be a tab process. Or the GPU service, depending. Just looked like your disk was at 100% so something was reading/writing disk.
-
@AryanDevasagayaum Your view of Windows Taskmanager summary says nothing on resource consummation.
You should use Process Exploer to see a better view or the internal Vivaldi Taskmanager (start with Shift Esc).
-
@AryanDevasagayaum I do not see any high usage with 6.1 Stable / Win 11 ; profile on a older Hitachi HGST 1 TB drive (max 80 MB/s).
I get max 12% CPU, 1% HD when playing radio or video on the site.Perhaps you have extensions which are running nuts on that site.
What happens in Guest Profile and tell if that works. -
@DoctorG I only have UBO and Grammarly.
I saw that it was the rendering service that was taking up too much processes
-
-
@DoctorG be patient.
I have checked it and the high power usage occurs during the rendering of new websites. Even on guest window when the website loads, it takes a huge chunk of the CPU and disk.
Then gradually returns to normal.
On my profile the usage was 1300 MB
on guest 700 Mb -

Hi, this page https://defimedia.info/ is really heavy, even on a Ryzen 7, 16 GB system with SSD it takes some CPU.
These pages like cnn.com let my laptop fan start, they simply don´t care about the user resources.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin Finally someone else notices this problem
-
@mib2berlin opened both sites, Vivaldi for me is barely using any cpu and 0% disk activity.
Edit: OK, after a while the tab with https://defimedia.info shows from 6% to 20% cpu usage. There's a lot of javascript going on there apparently. -
mine is using at most 3000mb of ram.
-
@PaRr0tBoy I visit them both.Nothing had happened after 10 minutes..
-
@AryanDevasagayaum
Hi, today I start Vivaldi 6.2 for testing and get also very high CPU usage, 6.1 was low.
One tab of a German newspaper was in a kind of reload loop, this cause the high CPU up to 80% of my i5 system.
This was not shown in the Vivaldi task manager.
I have only 10 tabs in a workspace open and the start page so it was easy to find.
If you get this high CPU usage can you check this?Cheers, mib
-
Me too, I don't know what to do. Today i turned on the notebook and i was astonished at the absurd consumption, within a few minutes i had to connect the battery. 88% consumption of Vivaldi alone?
PS: Sorry for my bad english.

@elitenet Some of your extensions can cause this, Vivaldi Mail, dysfunctional GPU driver, loading many tabs and workspaces.
Please check in Vivaldi with
Shift Esc
which process consumes so much. -
On my PC loading Last Session with 3 workspaces and their tabs (each 3-6) causes much CPU (4 cores 100%) usage over 20 secs
But after all was loaded CPU load goes down to 2%. -
@DoctorG Thank's! I'll check it out right now. I will run some tests and post the results here.
-
I think I've found the reason, Vivaldi Mail or Vivaldi Calendar seem to be consuming a lot of CPU. Which is a real shame, I was using Microsoft Edge which is excellent at managing computer resources, I recently migrated to Vivaldi because of its features which are very helpful in my work.
Anyway, thank you very much for your support.
