@koloveli Sure, it could help, but it is unlikely. If a malicious site is trying to impersonate a legitimate one, wouldn't they use the same colors as the real site? The best way to not accidentally put your login credentials into a fake site is to use a password manager. They won't prompt to fill in your login unless the domain is correct.

          It's not a site problem.

The same thing is happening now, Snapshot hangs and Stable finishes

They also seem to have a different file size, for the exact same file

@sjudenim It is that stupid Chromium security issue with executable files.

            Keep Unsafe Download.png

I now have a bookmark to chrome://downloads where one can fix the problem.

Hi, I can download the file but I am on Linux.
I guess it is the feature of Chromium 116 to block .exe files work different as in stable, Chromium 114.
You should get a popup with Keep or Discard.

              Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin The popup never appears — that makes the problem so much harder to resolve.

For Linux relevant files, .rpm .deb, it appears but not in any case.
I cant find any logic when and when not. 🤷🏻♂

@sjudenim The file size is the same, with this build the units are following the standard SI/IEC: [Downloads] [Panels] Use decimal SI units instead of legacy binary units (VB-98728)

257.73 MB are 245.79 MiB (your previous MB)

There is no logic to it - that's the problem.

For some download for some users - fine. For others - it just just appears to "hang" at 100%. It's not really hanging - it's waiting for input from a "helpful" "security" dialog that never appears... 🤦♂

@Pathduck Indeed, no logic at all.

The free utility sizer.exe downloads fine from my insecure site. No delay, and no dialog.

@mib2berlin Same 💩 happens in Linux for specific file types as well (already prior to C/116 iirc wrong: downloads fine in V.-C/114) , for example the Vivaldi install script https://downloads.vivaldi.com/snapshot/install-vivaldi.sh , notification is being shown only with the Plasma integration extension.

                          9547725c-12ef-4eed-8621-d556667b73d8-image.png

/edit: which is not working as well, there's no button/option or anything to say "yes, f* please"

/update1: strangely enough, the file is being downloaded in a clean profile, without a warning

/update2: if you paste the url in the address bar it downloads the file without the warning.
If you don't use Vivaldi's UI with --disable-vivaldi and click on the url you get the option to discard/keep at the bottom.

Same here. A few snaphots ago there was also this problem, was fixed, and now is back again.

@sjudenim Download works for me on Windows 11. After all downloaded it took 6 seconds to get the notification, i guess it is a Windows Defender delay.

That pop up usually shows before downloading the file, but it doesn't show at all with this build. It just starts the download.

And speaking of notifications, when a file completes it's download, the notification sticks around forever. I have to manually close it. This has been a problem for a while now

If it was Windows related I would think that it would have the same issue in the Stable build, but that one has no problem completing the download

@iPristy Too late for (back)ports now with Chromium 116 I'd say, "new" Stable most probably week 34, things seem to flow a bit faster with the previous release and this one.
