@janrif do you by any chance use custom css that might mess with what toolbars are shown?
Nope
@WildEnte said in Disappearing Mail Search Bar:
select "reset toolbar to defaults"?
It resets to default toolbar, including the missing pieces which is meaningless at the moment b/c Vivaldi restored the toolbar on its own. It's arbitrary. The next time the problem presents itself -- if it happens -- I will follow your suggestion & add to this thread. Thanks for your interest.

@Slopz and @janrif do you by any chance use custom css that might mess with what toolbars are shown?
If you don't, I wonder how your toolbars could possibly go missing. What happens if you ...
- start off by editing another toolbar (e.g. right click the mail panel icon,
- then go to edit - customize toolbar),
- then select the mail toolbar from the dropdown menu
- and select "reset toolbar to defaults"?
I had the same problem, missing the entire toolbar with Search, delete, mark as read etc.
I tried resetting all toolbars as you said and after restarting Vivaldi, the toolbar shows up nice! Thanks!
FYI, I never customized the toolbar or messed with it in any way. Just noticed it went missing somewhere after the 6.6 upgrade.

Update: The toolbar just disappeared again today.
Seems that the fix is not permanent. Something might be corrupting it. But I don't know how to diagnose further. -
@SilverGreen93 Have you selected the settings (sliders) icon in the Mail Search field?
Selecting that shows this:
There is also a Mail Search option in the Toolbar Editor, if it's the actual search field that is missing.
-
@edwardp All buttons in the toolbar to the right of, and including, the Mail Search box are missing.
The only thing that fixes it is resetting the Mail Bar. But it seems the fix is temporary.

Hi,
What about this
https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/670359 -
@SilverGreen93 Resetting it to the default should restore it, but it shouldn't be temporary.
I'm wondering if perhaps there is an issue with the profile.

Hi,
What about this
https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/670359As I said, this works. If I reset the Mail bar, the search box and all buttons show up again. This I did 4 days ago, but now the toolbar disappeared again.
Repeating the same fix works again, but I wonder for how long... -

I just deleted and resetted my user profile last time, after installing Vivaldi 6.6 because of the Mail issue that I had with the Mail that kept sending erroneously.
I wouldn't want to do it againIssue was this one
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/93290/failed-to-sent-message-notification-pops-up-every-time-i-open-vivaldi/3?_=1715002559304
which I didn't manage to fix so I resetted my profile. -
@edwardp
I think I just figured it out, but needs testing out more days to confirm:- Have the mail side-panel open
- Open a random mail folder (e.g. inbox)
- The search box is located above the mail list, as it should, and the buttons are on the right.
- Close the mail tab, but leave the mail side-panel opened.
- Close Vivaldi.
- Open Vivaldi again.
- Open any mail folder.
- Notice that the search box and buttons have now moved slightly to the right.
- Open other random folders and notice that the search box and buttons might move slightly more to the right.
- If you close the tab, close vivaldi and reopen and repeat the same steps, the whole toolbar moves randomly more to the right.
I think that in my case, this movement accumulated during these 4 days and the search box did not disappeared, but got moved out of the screen such that it was not visibile anymore.
Resetting the toolbar always brings back their position.

@SilverGreen93
Hi, I can verify this, it's about 20-30 pixel each time.
I always pin my mail tab so I would never notice this.
May you wait if @edwardp can reproduce this before you report, then we can confirm this in the bug tracker.Cheers, mib

What you are seeing are Flexible Spaces.
Sometimes, one will randomly appear on its own. If I close the Mail panel then reopen it, the random flexible space goes away. When it randomly appears, this would be a bug, if it was previously removed from the toolbar.
What I did to fix this (in Linux), was to add seven (7) regular Spaces to the left of the Mail Search field, then remove the Flexible Space, so it now looks like this:
When editing, this is what it looks like:
-
Didn't know about flexible spaces. Will replace it with fixed spaces, but I don't think a random flexible space appears, I think that the current flexible space changes its witdth randomly to something big.
So what we are seeing is a bug as it is, why would a flexible space change its width randomly on each Vivaldi restart? -
@edwardp
Hi, the flexible space is the default there, should we not report this? -
@mib2berlin It should be reported, if it is not working as intended.
Where it randomly appeared then disappeared, long after it was removed here, I would call that a bug.
