I rather use backup codes to authenticate when login in but I've they only work once then never again. Is it only me experiencing this or is this for all users?

@Tetsuosumo That's normal behaviour, you can read about it on the blog about the 2FA update:
"If you’re only able to add one of those methods, be sure to generate Recovery Codes. These are long codes made up of random letters that you can use, whenever your main second verification option isn’t available. [...]
We generate 3 codes for your account, which you should save in a safe location.[...] Each code can be used only once, so when you’ve used even just one code, it’s best to go to your account’s profile and review your Two-Factor Authentication settings." -
@Tetsuosumo Backup codes are a one time thing, they aren’t supposed to be used as your main way to log in, they are just backups to recover your account. If they could be used any amount of times, it wouldn’t be 2FA anymore, it would be 2×1FA. Disable 2FA if you don’t want to use it.

@luetage @marialeal Thank you for your quick replies. I guess I wasn't using 2FA how it was meant to be used. I now know better. I have it all setup to use totp auth app on android and another version on my laptop. It's working fine now

If you want to authenticate into your mail or calendar (for example, to access it through a webclient, like the Vivaldi browser, for example), then you'll need to define an app password.
I'm only mentioning because when I read the original post, that's what I thought you were looking for - the app passwords remain active for as long as you want. -
@pauloaguia Thanks for replying. No I meant the 2FA authentication on vivaldi.net and not the mail/calendar. I was misusing the backup codes which are meant for emergencies as a means to authenticate instead of using the auth app set up on my mobil and now on my laptop
