'Find in page' sidebar overlay

When doing a 'Find in page' the semi-transparent sidebar that indicates the location of the instances of found text is a great idea, but why overlay it, rather than simply set it to the side of the text, i.e, make the text window a little narrower? Often the sidebar makes it difficult to see what's on the right side of the page. Or else provide a setting so the user can choose.
