How to prevent Vivaldi from auto append a number to downloaded filename?

Vivaldi 5.7.2921.53 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Revision 61f2a4332cf5c7762ce2b311a6ed597582dc95e3
OS Windows 11 Version 22H2 (Build 22621.963)
JavaScript V8 11.0.226.16
Vivaldi always appends a number like (1) to filename if there is a file with the same
name as the file being downloaded. Many times I end up with multiple copies of the same file because of this unwanted
behavior, especially for huge files! All other apps warn the user in such case and ask if the existing file should be replaced, and
that's the expected behavior which I used to.So how to make Vivaldi behave normally like other apps?

@Marrawan Hi, this is a Chromium thing, and it can't be changed. All Chromium-based browsers do this - Vivaldi, Chrome, Brave, Opera, Edge.
If you want to change the filename, use Save As.

very old problem and frequently asked
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/46861/option-in-downloads-for-not-renaming-file-with-same-nameyou can try an extension to always overwrite instead of appending (number) to the filename

Even if I use the Save As the number is still appended.
Chromium thing? That's not good since probably it won't be fixed at all
They're trying to be friendly but ended up being unfriendly, Oh well! But I found an extension that will do just what I wanted, don't
append numbers to downloaded files -
thanks!, I added my above reply before seeing your reply
Its strange though a simple extension can do what a browser can't (or wont?)

You have to select the file you want to overwrite, or edit the filename. This is how it's always worked in all Chromium browsers.

@Pathduck
Thanks!, To avoid editing filenames is the main reason why I want the familiar behavior back,Try to select the existing file from a list of a couple of hundred files each time you save a file, or
from a list of similar long filenamesAnother thing is that even when I want to save the file to a different folder I have to remove
the trailing number myself, extra work from a solution introduced to save me from doing extra work!, Brilliant! -
