Bug report: Address Bar / forward slash bug when settings set to show full URL
-
The URL I'm at:
https://www.example.com/blog/The URL displayed when the address bar loses focus:
https://www.example.com/blogThe ending / is missing. If I add ?test=123 the full URL is properly displayed. I'm using the latest Vivaldi version for Windows and obviously I have the full URL to be displayed in the Address Bar settings.
I've actually become very specific about things on my web platform so at first I thought my platform wasn't redirecting admin to admin/.
Also I'm only using Vivaldi with Windows so I do not know if this issue is cross-platform. I also don't have a clear idea of where to post bug reports so just putting that out there. Okay, so fix this please when you folks get some time.
-
@jabcreations That is a already reportrd bug in tracker.
-
@DoctorG And where...is...the bug tracker?
-
@jabcreations Inernally.
-
I'm hoping this will be fixed soon.
Very annoying - sometimes it make a huge difference in development if there is a / present or not.@jabcreations yes, it's cross plattform.

For me missing / in display is a a nnoying but cosmetic issue.
I do not understand what development means for you.
But URL in address field is complete if you select it. And fro development you can inspect by Developer Tools which request were done. -

www.example.com/admin is a page.
www.example.com/admin/ is a section.In a URL anything to the right of a ? is sometimes optional though the moment anything to the left of a ? is changed or missing then it's an entirely different URL. Looking is an action, clicking is an action. So to have to click is two actions. Developers can write upwards of 10-30 kilobytes (10 - 30 thousand characters) of code a day and generate much more. So the less we have to deal with that we shouldn't the more productive we can be.
You can read more about the details of this very non-cosmetic aspects of URLs here:

OK, that is waste of time, i agree.
I am not really the one who defends the broken display in onfocused address field. I dislike such uisability bugs. -
@DoctorG
Sure it's "just" an annoyance, never sait otherwiseI know how to get around this for sure.
Just imagine checking your code paths, web compiler and browser caches for half an our and then remember you forget to double check the displayed url.
You too would wish this annoyance would be gone.
It's quiet a task to get the bite marks out of your desk - especially if it's not the first timeeini

I always update the existing internal bug tracker entry.
-
@DoctorG has there been any movement on this bug yet? It's been a regular annoyance for me for a couple years now, especially in the cases where the URL is still incorrect even after focusing the address bar.
I don't know how issues get prioritized internally, but "the browser is lying to the user" sure seems like it should be pretty high up there. If this was any other browser, I'd have fixed it myself and submitted a PR already.

Can confirm for 6.1.3035.302 ; but not reproducible with Vivaldi 6.2.3105.31. Seems to be fixed in latter.
@Hamclock An what is your issue?

I'm only running the stable version so 6.1 is still the latest for me at the moment, but that's very encouraging news to hear! I checked the release notes going back a couple snapshot versions and didn't see any mention of address bar fixes, but I guess I'll see once the next stable release drops.

@Hamclock The 6.2 Release Candidates are
nearreleased today, wait 1-2 weeks then you will get the fix in the new Stable.
