@mib2berlin That worked for me! Das hat bei mir erfolgreich funktioniert! Thank you!

@RonSchild I use Bing all the time and don't have a problem with it.
Would you prefer Google? Cause that's pretty much the only other choice out there.

I prefer Google to Bing.

You.com is not yet available in every country, but it makes an interesting impression.
It is based on 'Bing' but behaves differently.
"You.com was named one of TIME’s best inventions of 2022. The list highlights 200 extraordinary innovations changing how we live, and winners were chosen based on a number of key factors including originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact."

Yes, I would. I cannot really give a rating for Bing in English, as I mostly search in my native language, but for German results I definitely prefer Google. Well, thinking about it, Bing might have the better results as well and only be bad at sorting the results (in German), so a massive change in the sorting of results, as You.com seems to do it, may be able to eliminate the drawbacks. Maybe I'll give it a try.
Teh obvious 3rd choice would be to maintain an own index - and yes, this cost quite a lot of resoruces.

You said: "When looking for a customizable search experience, use personal mode. In this mode, they collect a minimal amount of data to improve the product and give you a personalized experience. But they don’t share that data with anyone."
Their privacy policy says that this isn't true. There's an entire section outlining the data they share with 3rd parties. See "How We Share the Information We Collect in Standard mode" at https://you.com/legal/privacy.

I don't understand why a pop up window appears after every search asking me to log in. Log in? Why?
-
@RichardHC
Hi, what pop up do you mean?
If you meant a Google pop up you have a service active, Google calendar or Gmail, for example.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin The search results page for you shows two buttons: Log In and Sign Up. and often (not always) a popup window appears saying basically the same thing - like this -
-
@RichardHC
Ah You, I don´t use it as default search engine so I never saw the pop up, log in area on the page seams OK to me.
Do you use the Vivaldi Ad Blocker for this page?Cheers, mib
-
Actually, yes, the add blocker is active for the you page. But my question was really why a supposedly super private search engine wants my email address plus, the default setting for the search engine is NOT private and they do collect data on what you search for to supposedly tailor the results to what you are most interested in. I don't WANT a search engine to tailor anything, just give me the spread of information available on the topic. They do have a private setting but when you select that it automatically and irreversibly goes to the dark mode. Lastly, they are using the Microsoft Bing search database - as does Yahoo and DuckDuck etc. So..... my question is basically: Why You.com?
