Solved Black screen while using Youtube
-
I am on a loaner laptop since my main laptop is under repair for the next few weeks. The loaner laptop only has 2.5 GB of RAM left out of a total of 8 GB. My settings synced over from my Vivaldi account but I have run into performance issues using Vivaldi. This culminated in Vivaldi showing a black screen while I was trying to switch my profile in Youtube. The Start menu still appeared and I could switch between open programs but I could not exit Vivaldi until I went to the Windows Task Manager and forced Vivaldi to close.
Vivaldi version: 5.5.2805.48 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Windows version: Windows 10 Pro 21H2
OS Build: 19044.2251
Laptop model: Dell Latitude 5480

So I tried turning off the hardware acceleration and that seemed to solve the problem. Thanks for the help. -
@DrMabuse
Hi, I have an older HP Probook with i5 and 8 GB on Windows 11 and have absolutely no performance problems. Is it really a memory problem and Windows start swapping on the hard disk?
Are you used to use 300 tabs open then 8 GB is to small.
If you still can start Vivaldi try to disable hardware acceleration in Settings > Webpages.
I guess it is more a GPU/driver/Vivaldi problem.Cheers, mib

I ran into the black screen issue again. I upgraded Vivaldi to the latest stable release yesterday. The number of tabs I had open were 34 tabs with them being split between 4 tab groups. I will try turning off hardware acceleration and see what happens. I'm not sure why that was turned on because I thought I had turned it off on another computer but it looks like my settings didn't sync over. -
@DrMabuse
Hi, not all settings are synced, it´s getting more and more but it is still a lot of work to sync all settings, custom keyboard shortcuts, for example.Cheers, mib
