Download status in...well...the Status Bar
-
I understand that there are a lot of details about the status of a download in the side panels (both extended and minimized).
But not everybody uses panels. For example, I don't. I want to minimize the number of sidebars on the screens and so I open the panels only very occasionally.
Without the Panels open, I literally have no idea a) if my download has started and b) what's its status.
Having to open the Panels just to confirm that my download has, indeed, started seems like a lot of unnecessary friction.In the meanwhile, there's an enormous amount of real estate in the Status Bar that is completely unused.
Even with all status bar icons visible (plus the preview of the URL you are about to visit when you hover on a hyperlink), we still have a lot of space that could be used to show a download progress. -
@s1s2 Display the Downloads button on the Address Bar. Then you will be able to see the download progress in the Downloads Icon.
If you need more details, open the popup.

@Pesala That helps, thank you. But isn't more appropriate and logical that the status of something appears in a "status" bar rather than in an "address" bar?
Secondary but relevant: the approach you are suggesting implies occupying precious real estate (for the download button) in a very crowded area of the UI (the address bar, where a lot of extension icons live) even when there's no ongoing download.
I'd rather see the progress of a status only when there's a progress taking place, and in the area of the UI designated for status things.

@s1s2 If you have lots of extensions, show hidden extension on the dropdown.
The search field can also be reduced to a button to save space.
-
@s1s2 You can move the download button to the status bar and see the progress clicking on it.

@Hadden89 Thank you for this very valuable tip, I have learned something new.

@Hadden89 Ohhhhhh.
Not quite what I am hoping for, but a big improvement. Thank you!
