Clone Vivaldi portable and mod to make a browser of another name
-
Hi Vivaldi team, is it legal to clone Vivaldi portable, customise it, and distribute under another name, another logo?
If not directly so, any kinda powered-by Vivaldi notices to be placed on the new clone?
-
@daldinncook As far as I know you can’t do that at all. The Vivaldi browser is proprietary.
-
It is open-source (not on GitHub but open-source) so I thought it could be fine to alter, but nvm, I will just customise only and redistribute under Vivaldi name & logo instead; supposed to be OK this way?
-
@daldinncook Contact team and ask by emailing to [email protected].
-
@daldinncook The only thing that’s open source are Vivaldi’s modifications to the Chromium base. The whole UI and everything that belongs to it is proprietary. You cannot redistribute it. But wait for a reply from someone from the Vivaldi team. I do not give legal advice here.
-
Also, it should be mentioned that there is NOT a portable version of Vivaldi ! So be careful how you consider redistributing.

@daldinncook Thanks for your interest in spreading the word and distributing Vivaldi to more people.
We currently don’t have a ready-made system to enable this type of distribution.
But, if you haven't already, please send a message to [email protected] with more details about your plan, as @DoctorG suggested.
Perhaps the standard free distribution agreement many of our partners have used will be applicable in your case as well. -
