@barbudo2005 , we'll see what happens until 2024. Although it's not just Chrome either, Mozilla and Safari will also go to MV3

Quote: "One of the most controversial changes of Chrome’s MV3 approach is the removal of blocking WebRequest, which provides a level of power and flexibility that is critical to enabling advanced privacy and content blocking features. Unfortunately, that power has also been used to harm users in a variety of ways. Chrome’s solution in MV3 was to define a more narrowly scoped API (declarativeNetRequest) as a replacement. However, this will limit the capabilities of certain types of privacy extensions without adequate replacement.
Mozilla will maintain support for blocking WebRequest in MV3. To maximize compatibility with other browsers, we will also ship support for declarativeNetRequest. We will continue to work with content blockers and other key consumers of this API to identify current and future alternatives where appropriate. Content blocking is one of the most important use cases for extensions, and we are committed to ensuring that Firefox users have access to the best privacy tools available."

Linux might be the "last" resort?
MX Linux has an integrated option to block ads.

No. It will be Vivaldi with a reinforced and powerful built-in Blocker.
-
@barbudo2005 - hope so, but not holding my breath!
Up until now, have needed uBlock Origin to do the job, 'cause Vivaldi's just doesn't cut it.

I would like to know how the improvement of the built in ad blocker is going thinking about 1 January 2024?
-
Thanks for this statement. You probably already know that uBlock Origin does no longer work on Youtube, but does in Firefox, so this looks related to this to me.
-
@xanathon Much of what you type out is incoherent. Read the ublock Origin documentation about Youtube’s attempts at stopping adblockers. You need to follow their guidelines strictly to successfully apply the extension and its blocklists. They also point out that all browsers are affected, including Firefox—Youtube’s code is browser agnostic. Think about it this way: Why should Youtube target Chromium browsers? It would be stupid for Google to force users to go with one of their competitors instead.

Funny enough - my experience is that uBlock origin DOES work in YouTube - but it's Vivaldi's ad-blocker which YouTube now complains about!
So I have clicked the shield in the address bar on YouTube and selected "block trackers", left uBlock origin on and YouTube is fine - no ads, no nag screen about ad blocking.
-
@mossman Likely the youtube adblocking needs some uBO rules which are not supported yet by vivaldi blocker. Not strange at all.
-
I'm still fine with the Vivaldi Blocker + the iFrame Extension. No nags, ads or blockings until now.

This is the link :
" YouTube Anti-Adblock and Ads - October 29, 2023 (Mega Thread)"
It is important to read it to know first hand what the uBO team is doing to solve the YT problem.

Yesterday I had to refresh the uBO filters to get to YouTube on one machine, so I may not entirely know what I'm talking about...

From uBO team in the link above (Reddit):
"YouTube filters are in a list named uBlock filters - Quick fixes. The list updates every 12 hours. It's the only list you might need to update - only if 'this page' says it's fixed, but you're getting the message.
If you're not getting detected. Don't update."

@Catweazle What's this iFrame extension you mentioned?
