Pinning tab stack and tabs separately on two-level tab bar
-
Now when you have two-level tab stacking enabled and some tabs stacked you have strange behavior of the tabs when pinning (with right click menu):
- you have the pin option on the first parent tab which pins only one active tab (child - second bar), which is confusing and looks like a bug
- you can't pin every tab (child - second bar), no such option
I'd like to have the options under right click to:
- pin/unpin tab stack (only first parent bar) - without pinning/unpinning child tabs on the second bar
- separately pin/unpin every tab on the second bar - without pinning/unpinning parent tab on the first bar

If you pin the tab stack, all the child tabs are pinned.
Look: No Close Button x

My suggestion to change the feature is so that you can pin tabs separately on the first bar (parent tab) and separately tabs on the second bar (child tabs).
I'd like to pin/unpin the parent tab (on the first bar) without pinning any tab in the second bar (child tabs) and also pin/unpin every child tab in the second tab whether the parent tab is pinned or not.
Both are not possible now.@Pesala said in Pinning tab stack and tabs separately on two-level tab bar:

Look: No Close Button xIt seems to me that you have disabled showing the x button (no x on the upper right tabs that are not pinned). So you can't see that only one child tab is pinned, which is some bug or weird feature. But it doesn't matter because my proposal changes/fixes it.
And btw, settings for pinned tabs should be extended. Currently, we can only set the behavior for closing pinned tabs, but can't set to shrink it or not and to attach it or not to the beginning of the bar.
With two-level tab bar it works different on each bar which is confusing. -

The tab on the first level tab bar is not the parent of the other tabs in the stack, but their sibling. The active tab is shown on the first level. Pinning the first level tab pins the tab stack.
I have not disabled the x button. There is currently no option to pin / unpin individual tabs in a stack.
I recall that was once possible, but that bug was fixed.
Option to Pin Individual Tabs in a Stack would be a valid feature request.
Perhaps you need to rethink the request. It should work for Accordion Tab Stacks too.

@Pesala there is a fairly similar existing feature request: Lock/Protect Tabs
-
@vkleinschmidt That is a different issue — the aim of Lock Tabs is to prevent navigation away from the URL when the tab was locked.
Pinning Tabs / Stacks just shrinks the tabs, move them to the left, and make it harder to close them.
-
@Pesala Actually that request was specifically asking to protect tabs from closure. Yes, locking (preventing navigation) is a different but related issue. All three (pin, lock, protect) are related, and help with keeping certain sites handy, but people have different expectations on which of pin/lock/protect they want to achieve. In my book pin should usually include lock/protect, as I pin mainly entire web applications such as Gmail or WhatsApp. And since you don't offer separate lock/protect options, people are often going to ask for pinning when they really mean lock&protect.
