Changing default search engine reverts to bing on next startup
-
I'm running 5.2.2623.48 (Stable channel) (32-bit). I go to Settings -> Search and select Google as my default search engine. The next time I start Vivaldi, Bing shows as my default search engine.
Why isn't Google staying as my default search engine?

@51Marlin Interesting, in that mine has been set to Google for years now. Anything else change regularly, lose Bookmarks or passwords, etc.?

This should be fixed in https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/75946/minor-update-3-for-vivaldi-desktop-browser-5-3/7.

@pedroc
Ok I uploaded the new version: 5.3.2679.38 (Stable channel) (32-bit)and I went to the Settings -> Search Page. I hit the reset to default settings and the only options I can access are Bing and DuckDuckGo. BUT it will not even let me select DuckDuckGo for my Default Search engine. What's going on here:
-
@51Marlin Try hitting the "Restore Default" button below the search engines. Or the "Reset Search Setting to Default" button under Reset Settings.
From your screenshot you have a lot of Bing search engines. And even DDG uses the "b" shortcut. Something has gone very wrong during the update for you.

I tried both resets - didn't do anything. By looking at the logs I can see that many others have the same issue so I downgraded to 5.2.2623.48 (Stable channel) (32-bit) and everything is working fine!

@51Marlin If you looked at the many, many other posts in the forum about this over the last day, you would also notice that a lot of people found this to be caused by the DuckDuckGo extension, and simply disabling it temporarily allowed them to fix the problem.
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/76017/issues-with-changing-the-default-search-engine-after-updateOther extensions that override the default search engine could also cause this issue.

I had the same issue but I was able to fix it. Here's how.
I disabled all my extensions.
Voila. That was the issue.
I was able to select my default, private, and image engines without any difficulty. I restored my extensions and the search engines I selected were in place. -
@Pathduck
I disabled ALL my extensions, restarted Vivaldi and it still didn't work. So yes I've read all the different things to do and tried most of them, but nothing would work. So I didn't give up easily, but at some point I decided that I've spent enough time on this so I 'solved' it the quickest way I knew.
