Previous word button in "Find in Page" feature not working [Resolved]
-
I have been facing this issue since quite some time (as far as I can remember, actually), and finally decided I should post about it.
Like the title suggests, whenever I use the "Find in Page" feature [by clicking Ctrl+F] the previous button hardly ever works. I try clicking a number of times but it doesn't work. The next word button works, though. To find the previous word, I often have to close the Find in Page bar, scroll the page a bit and then reopen the bar. I wonder if there's something I'm missing here?It is not just an inconvienience, I also want to find out why this has been happening. Kindly help. Thanks!

@mayashaya Try
Enter
for next andShift-Enter
for previous. Works for me. -
@mayashaya What is your Vivaldi and OS version?
Not able to reproduce the issue here.

@mayashaya I tried 5.1.2567.57 Win 11 to search at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enthalpy for the word
Enthalpy
and i could use previous and next button of fidn in page field. -
@luetage I tried it, and it did work a couple of times after which it stopped making effect. I had to delete the word and reenter it on the content bar to get the keys to work again. Thanks a lot for sharing though!
@Pesala Mine is version 5.1.2567.57 on a Windows-11. There was actually something I didn't mention before in the description. In my case, I'm facing this issue only when it comes to finding a word in a pdf. Otherwise, it works alright on web pages and such! Sorry for the confusion, and thank you.
@DoctorG It's the same with me too. This issue only arises with pdfs and word files, etc. Thanks for the help.

That’s an important detail, for me personally it works on a sample pdf too, both shortcuts and clicking. You might want to share the pdf, if it’s nothing sensitive, or a link to any public pdf document the problem can be reproduced with.

Really weird, i tested in PDF viewer and could use the prev button of search in page.

@luetage I see, I don't get why I am facing this issue either. This happens with all pdf pages I open, it's not the case with just some pages.
@DoctorG For me here, the button is very much clickable but it does not take me to the desired previous word.I wonder if you could share any ideas if you have any? Thanks for your time.

@mayashaya Try on a fresh profile.

@luetage I just tried it on a guest window and the buttons worked like normal! It actually worked. I don't get why it won't work with my normal tabs though. Does it have to do something with settings?
Thanks a lot, by the way!Edit: Maybe I should try re-logging in.

@mayashaya No, something in your default profile breaks it. Could be one of your extension, could be something internal. Try disabling all extensions, if that doesn’t work, reset your profile and start fresh ☛ https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/install-update/full-reset-of-vivaldi/

@luetage Oh, I see. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll work around that now that I understand better where the problem lies. Nice day!

I tested by disabling all the extensions one by one, and simultaneously checking if doing that makes the buttons work smoothly. After I was done halfway I found out that the problem was posed by the two translation extentions I had installed.
Now I've removed both of them, and am now using an alternative which does not break the Vivaldi features. Thanks for all your help!PS: Can you mark this thread as "Solved"? A moderator or anyone. Thanks!

@mayashaya Sure.
