Profile error occurred-Your preferences cannot be read
-
After a ransomware-like attack and a reboot, I got this message. I know where the profile folder is but I don't know how to restore it.
-
@antioniolucioprego Well, has your data been encrypted in the attack?
-
@luetage No, so far this is the only problem.
-
@antioniolucioprego Go to your profile path, visit your default folder and take a look whether you can open and read the bookmarks file.
-
@antioniolucioprego I can open it but I can't read it. This is a sample...
-
@antioniolucioprego That’s normal, it’s just the favicon in code. All fine. Don’t know why your profile folder can’t be read…
-
@luetage I have shut it down and restarted it a couple of times. I also updated it too.
-
@antioniolucioprego That doesn’t fix your profile. Something in the attack has messed with it and it’s hard to tell how you would be able to recover it. With sync you should be able to get back up running relatively quickly. Rename your profile (e.g.
defaultbackup
), start Vivaldi and log in to sync. This way you have a backup of your original profile, but Vivaldi will load a new profile for you on startup.
