Solved Toggle settings button on side panel
-
Where is a settings button on the side panel which helps to open settings page. But when you click it again it doesn't close it. Shouldn't it be toggle button like other buttons on the side panel?

@smerugu28 It is not supposed to be a toggle any more than the New Tab button is supposed to be a toggle.
What it will do is bring the Settings dialog into focus if it is hidden behind another window.

@smerugu28 I’d assume it’s because settings have an option to open in a separate window. This window spawns its own process and couldn’t be easily controlled by a toggle. Anyway, Vivaldi has a multitude of ways to close tabs and windows, including mouse click/gesture, quick commands, keyboard shortcuts, etc.

@luetage Its not toggling even after disabling "Open settings in new tab". I have to close it explicityly

@pesala Correct, but it should close automatically if focus moves away from it or if you click the toggle again.
Why someone wants to keep it open in the backend?

So that they can experiment with different settings without reopening the dialog and finding the appropriate setting to change each time.

Due to the large amount of configuration that Vivaldi has, I find, as well as @Pesala practical, that the configuration page stays open and that it opens by default in a new tab.
The only thing that bothers me, perhaps a little, is the location of this button, very close to the Windows Start button, especially if the taskbar is set to auto hide, occupying the same location if the pointer is moved down to the left .
The same, by the way, can happen with the trash can button at the bottom right with the vertical tabs. -
