Paying H.265 encoded videos
-
Hello,
I just tried to play an H.265-encoded video in Vivaldi -- no luck. Had to use the less efficient H.264. I hear that apparently only Safari supports H.265 natively. Are there any plans to support H.265 in Vivaldi? Of course - this might be an issue to be "negotiated" with Chromium...

@hstoellinger Vivaldi uses ffmpeg codecs lib and if ffmpeg supports H.265, you will get it in Vivaldi, too.

Thanks

@doctorg "Get it in Vivaldi too"! When? It definitely did NOT play H.265-encoded MP4-files, but DID play H.264-encoded files.

@hstoellinger I can not tell why hvec is not used.
Perhaps a legal issue and high license costs for Vivaldi. -
@hstoellinger I could not find any hvec enabled free Chromiums yet for Linux. Do you know any?
-
No, unfortunately not.

@hstoellinger I see your title "Paying H.265 encoded videos" is so true: Pay annual fees per installation to patent holders, implement codec and hopefully get decoded video.
