This is a very annoying problem. I tried the "fix" described by @OakdaleFTL but it's pretty much the same. Now VIvaldi starts up with a blank page instead of home page, but I still have to click the link twice.

      I'm on MacOS 10.15.7.

Same problem still exists. Very annoying.

@umutbesler Worse in .39... I haven't the heart to show what happened with a WebLoc sent when Vivaldi 5.1 has no open windows!

Official release of 5.1.... Still not fixed.

Chromium was updated to 98.0.4758.88 with Vivaldi 5.1....3, where it remains.
Google's Chrome is Version 98.0.4758.80 (Official Build) (x86_64); their latest is at Version 99.0.4844.27 (Official Build) beta (x86_64). This problem doesn't occur in either...

            Are these numbers comparable?
In other words, is the Chrome User Agent the same as the version of Chromium?

Unfortunately I confirm, still not fixed.... 😠

About Chromium : the function to open the link sent to the app is probably not in chromium, but in the part of the Vivaldi software, which encapsulates Chrome User Agent (Agent that displays the page)

@angeheureux Sorry to hear that: I was hoping an upcoming boost in chromium would provide the fix...

Clicking a desktop link opens a Vivaldi start page, not the url. Needs a second click to open the page. This is still happening with latest version (Feb 17) on mac Big Sur. Doesn't happen in 4.3.24...
So I will be downgrading again. Same desktop link opens immediately in Safari.

Needs a second click to open the page

Which gets the second click? The WebLoc file? In other words, the first Open (the WebLoc file) gives Vivaldi's start page; and the second click opens the URL?

Yep: That's been the problem: If no browser window is open, the URL is -somehow- lost...

@oakdaleftl Yes, you need to click the webloc file a second time - then it opens the url. As I remember, it's the same if you click a link in an email. You have to click it again to open the link.

This problem surfaced with version 5. It was not there in version 4.

@youngster Gotcha! Yeah, it's a problem that's been around for a while... (I confess: The WebLoc disability doesn't bother me much. But links from email are another story!) Here's hoping it gets fixed soon, since it's such a basic feature!

p.s., I appreciate your User Name... Must I change mine to Oldster? 🙂

I'm just adding my voice to this. It's an annoying problem that still catches me a couple of times a day.

The work-arounds suggested seem like a lot more trouble than clicking a URL twice when it's possible that Vivaldi is open without any windows.

Having 2 issues that are killing me.

                                  1. When clicking on a link while vivaldi is closed, I am taken to the vivaldi home screen and not the link that I clicked.

                                  2. Also, if a webpage isn't fully loaded and you try to overwrite the url in the address bar with a search, once the page is loaded, the input text is overwritten in the address bar.

I have seen other posts on these issues but no solution. Are there any fixes or plans to fix?

                                    2. This is known as VB-86199 Lost typing in the URL field, and it has been fixed in the latest Snapshot. The next Stable major update should have the patch implemented. Sorry for the inconvenience.

@pafflick Glad to know that Vivaldi for MacOS team is working on the email URL link problem. (VB-86199 Lost Typing in the URL)

I have also experienced this as a consistent flaw in Vivaldi. Clicking a link from Apple Mail client opens the Vivaldi home/speed dial page but does not open the intended URL link page. Only by clicking the email link a second time will Vivaldi present the correct URL page.

I have seen comments on workarounds, but really, this is a fundamental feature of browsers. Only if the URL is suspicious should a browser defer showing the intended web page.

Otherwise, Vivaldi for Mac computers has been excellent since I switched to it last month. (But I'm not using the android version yet on phone or tablet due to clunky tab UI.)

                                        Thanks!

Please post in Vivaldi on Android about your issue with tabs. On phones, you can disable the Tab Bar, if you find it too clunky.
