Friday poll: How much do you customize Vivaldi's appearance?
-
Hola, Hola!
The weeks go by very fast and as it's Friday again, it's time for a new Friday poll, not without first giving last week's results where 53% of users answered the question "Do you use the session feature?" with sometimes.
Now, we want to know how much do you customize the look and feel of Vivaldi with Themes?
Vivaldi is a feature-rich browser, and one of its main virtues is customization, from default themes to CSS code for the more experienced - there is no limit!
Let us know in the comments how you customize it and vote on vivaldi.net (remember to be logged in), and if you want, send us a screenshot to know how beautiful your Vivaldi is.

@realmat0s Well, the categories are inadequate, sorry. I picked
Like a pro - I use custom CSS
only because i use many CSS, + JS, but none of it stems from my own work; it's all "borrowed" from the forum community wizards.
So i wish you'd pls create another category:
Like a numpty - I use custom CSS stolen from others.

I have counted through... I have installed 30 .css modifications and 10 .js modifications in my Vivaldi. What excites me about it is, all these modifications work completely flawlessly and make my Vivaldi browser very unique.

the… what?

Like a pro - I use custom CSS
Well, I'm a minimalist so that custom CSS mostly consists of a lot of
display: none
rules for hiding useless fluff I can't hide by other meansAlso some minor modding of the Speed Dial look - I used to use VivaldiHooks before it sadly broke
but the only hooks I used was
speeddial-spacing
(which is awesome and should be merged with V code base ASAP!) anddisable-VB-25302
for disabling that st00pid search field populate thing...I'm also a firm believer in the KISS principle and I never borrow other people's CSS without understanding exactly what each declaration does
But I still like to actually have a UI, compared to @potmeklecbohdan

Moderate.
I customized my own dark theme and thumbnails w/ PS. In comparison with others can be simple, but I feel confortable with it and that's the big deal.
In other hand I haven't enough knowledge and patience to make it through CSS/JS
Main speeddial

I tend to change the appearance from time to time, but in general I always use a dark theme as I find it more pleasing to my eyes.
I don't use the Speed Dial, because I prefer to have the links in folders in the bookmarks bar, because this allows me to access the sites directly, without first having to open a new tab with the links.
As home page / new tab I use an empty Speed Dial page, where I have configured to use the same Wallpaper as my Desktop.
Nice wallpapers I find most in Pixabay, there are more than 1 millon images in HD free with Public Domain license

I guess I moderately customize one of default dark themes because the default one is not dark enough. I also think Accent color should be disabled by default, I don't like it at all.
Here is my New Theme 2:
I also remove:
- home button
- fast forward/back buttons
- profile button
- disable translation
- clock
- screenshot
- zoom slider (zoom buttons added instead)
- and even Page Tiling button, because it highlights when you have >1 tabs open, which is annoying...
Added:
- download button on the Address bar
- panel button is moved to the Address bar

Customization is very dangerous and leads one down a path of destruction. There’s a reason why CSS customization is hidden behind an experiment, Vivaldi tries to protect its users. I had a friend once, and don’t think I didn’t warn him, who decided he wasn’t satisfied with Vivaldi’s layout of the address bar. At first he only did some light tinkering here and there, but he just couldn’t stop himself. I want to spare you the gory details, suffice to say he is no more. I will never forget the funeral, the apple crumble tart was exquisite.

In the latest Snapshot we have a redesigned theme editor, but there is a huge empty space on the right. So the idea is to use that space for the live preview of the theme
-
@luetage True, modding must be approached with extreme caution, careless modding by unwary users can lead to extreme behaviour.
Vivaldi modders after discovering an update once again broke their code:
Lemme at 'em! Lemme at 'em! Aaaaarrrrr! -
@pathduck This could be me, lol. Or not… I’d bide my time, take my medication, do the group therapies, have my ups and downs and then when they least expect it I’d have my revenge. Do you think I really forgot what you did to me with that 2.8 update, do you kiddo????

Yeah, i've also got that pic, tabs & UI arrangement.
Funny old world.

the default one is not dark enough
Presumably you want the Hotblack Desiato Disaster Area theme.

Like a pro - I use custom CSS
Used to use lots of JS modifications as well, but got annoyed with them being removed on updates (messed around with scripts to re-patch the mods, but was still annoyed). So now I just stick to CSS and some custom extensions.
Most of my CSS revolves around making the interface look similar to modern chrOpera and making the interface more compact. I also did quite a few changes to the speed dial page to better fit my preferences.
Compactness

And yes, modding is very dangerous. Have lost many hours of sleep trying to achieve visual perfection and an equal many hours chasing the wrong solution before having to scrap all the wasted work...

Modding is nice, but on the other hand it is Comanche territory, especially for those who do not have a lot of CSS notions, like me, with my "Hello World" skill.
This is why I have never used it. On the other hand, at least for me, Vivaldi already offers enough customization options. -

Well, Vivaldi team has my permission to include my
New Theme 2
as one of the default theme.
They could rename it to something cool like The Massive Black Hole -
@stardust You used a redundant additional superfluous unnecessary tautology
