Hotkey for closing tab stack & Pressing 'x' button at top level closes tab stack
-
1 - As far as I can tell there is no hotkey for closing the current tab stack, if there is someone please tell me! I find it's a chore right-clicking and then searching for the close tab stack option.
2 - As an alternative to the aforementioned hotkey and cumbersome right-clicking. Add an option that allows the user to set whether closing the tab from the top level closes the entire tab stack.
-
@sshingler It can be done with a command chain.
- Enable Settings, Tabs, Tab Features, Tab Selection, Include Active Tab in Selection
- Create a command chain for Close Tab Stack: Select next Tab, Close Tab
- Assign a shortcut to the command chain.

@pesala thank you!

This is naturally expected, most convenient behaviour if you have two-level tab stacks enabled. For other modes of stacking, you generally don't want the X to close all your tabsβI believe the devs fixed clicking the X to work this way, but that was before two-level tabs were introduced.
Hopefully the dev team won't neglect to implement this easy, ergonomic, and very much common sense change.

@Fryderyk I'm glad you feel the same way
-
@sshingler Yep, I joint you in the dream of setting up a hotkey or even better a mouse gesture to close stack tabs.
Edit: I just set up my first chain oh boy, @Pesala thank you so much, I set up a hotkey and mouse gesture!

As this can be done with a command chain, I will close this request as "Done".

@Pesala I do not feel this is a solution. If there is a nice feature to stack tabs, which is probably largerly used, then why not take a step further and create coresspondig operations for stacked tabs like closing them all together?
For instance You can close a tab with a button, do not have to go to right click and command list for that.
Couldnt this be as simple as adding aditional button on the tab interface for the tad that represents a tab stack?
I assume this need comes from the idea, that stacked tabs have a common topick or goal which when finished reading is no longer relevant all together rather than one by one.
Also I assume stacked tabs need to be closed to get rid of unneeded tams and processing of them.
And regarding command chain - I dont feel it is a all user friendly solution. You have to have specific skills for that.
P.S. Now that I am done with this topic, I have to close all correspondig tabs one by one or search for the right click command down the line - all the time I need to close them every day.

@MrKnot This is an old topic. There is now a command for Close Tab Stack. Just assign a shortcut like Ctrl+Shift+W to that command.
-
@Pesala OK, I will try and will see how this works in practise. Thank You for responding despite the "Closed" status of the topic.

@Pesala Well, there is a limitation if I am not missing something. Shortcut keys do not allow combinations with keyboard and mouse. So I have to chose a combination for one hand and on the left side so that I can use it. There was a solution in Avant browser, where You could close a stack using a middle mouse click. Here I would use something similar, but not sure how to define one.

@MrKnot Ctrl+Shift+W can be done with one hand. I chose it because it fits with Ctrl+W, but you can choose whatever else suits you. Ctrl+Alt+W is a bit easier to do.
The default mouse gesture for closing a tab is GestureDown, GestureRight. I suggest creating a new gesture of GestureDown, GestureLeft for Close Tab Stack.
