Mail button placement is bad. Suggestion for improvement
-
I personally don't like the placement of the mail buttons in M3. To illustrate, I have opened a web panel instead of the mail panel with the mail tab and the compose tab open (but it's the same issue with the mail panel). I take my inspiration from M2, and I'm the first to admit that I have no clue about UI design.
Current button placement (Mail tab):

Also, there is no compose button anywhere else except for the inner bar in the mail panel. This should also be moved/added to the mail tab, I'd say...

@wildente +1. Ergonomically a disgrace.
But honestly, this is a topic that belongs to feature requests. Or? -
I think this is one of those problems that needs a general feature request like Customisable Toolbars. Everyone has different opinions about where toolbar buttons should be placed.
IMO the mail button belongs with the contacts and feeds buttons. The bookmarks button could be moved down above the downloads button. All of this is already possible.
Moving the compose button to another toolbar should be made possible by implementing customisable toolbars.

Much better with the newest snapshot 4.2.2406.4 and the fix
[Mail] Compose buttons should not placed beside the history buttons (VB-82341)
I still think the history icons should go above the message list but I can absolutely live with this new state. Thanks!

The latest snapshot 5.2.2603.6 places the mail search field and buttons in a weird spot again.
The search field acts on the mail list, so it should be above the list and not halfway above the panel; the mail buttons act on the selected email, they should not be halfway above the list....
