(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests

Hello!
It would be great if the downloads sidebar could have draggable elements, like in chrome or firefox. That way you can easily move downloads to other folders, or drag a download to an upload form(facebook picture for example).
Thanks!

See other browsers' bookmarks in Vivaldi's bookmarks panel, and interact with them and add them to the bookmarks bar (= Synced bookmarks)

Hello
It would be very desirable that when holding the Control Key and clicking on the "Go to the next / previous page", the page opens on a new tab. You could also implement it when clicking the middle mouse button
I would appreciate if the window close button (x) appeared on the left on linux
I noticed there is a bug when adding bookmarks. Sometimes when adding a page, it doesn't show on the bookmarks tab and I have to close and reopen the browser to fix it.
-
I would like to be able to set the StartPage to a custom page, and not just speed dial.
-
I have three requests, all related to control and mouse gestures. If all of them were added, Vivaldi would equal the best mouse gesture implementation currently available, the Firegestures extension on Firefox.
-
Please allow the user to customize rocker gestures. I want to set FlipBack to "close current tab" and FlipForward to "reopen closed tab". The current implementation is only valuable for people running 2-button mice, which are not very common in 2016!
-
Please add Wheel Gestures as a feature. Wheel Gestures are activated by scrolling on the mousewheel while holding the right mouse button.
-
This one is getting REALLY techie, but it's a feature I actually use and love on Firegestures. Please allow users to add their own actions that can be mapped to mouse gestures, mouse chords, or wheel gestures as userscripts. For example, I have Wheel Gestures mapped to Zoom In On Image / Zoom Out On Image in Firegestures with the custom userscript below.
const SCALE = 1.15; var node = FireGestures.sourceNode; if (!(node instanceof HTMLImageElement)) return; if (!node.hasAttribute("width")) node.setAttribute("width", node.naturalWidth); if (!node.hasAttribute("height")) node.setAttribute("height", node.naturalHeight); if (!node.hasAttribute("originalWidth")) { node.setAttribute("originalWidth", node.width); node.setAttribute("originalHeight", node.height); } node.width = node.width * SCALE; node.height = node.height * SCALE;
- If you decide not to do #3 (and I can't really blame you, this level of customization is a tough sell for default UI!) please add new actions for Zoom In On Image and Zoom Out on Image.

I don't think it's too much to ask, but it may take a while. The stated aim is to make something as good as Old Opera. That allows me to assign mouse gestures like this to show the bookmarks bar for 5 seconds — just long enough to click a bookmark.
GestureUp, GestuerDown = Set alignment, "personalbar inline", 6 & Delay, 5000 & Set alignment, "personalbar inline", 0
One can even use mouse gestures to launch applications with the "Execute program" command, e.g. this will open a text file in NotePad2 (which is my default program for editing text files):
GestureUp Alt = Execute program, "O:/Documents/ToDo.txt"

Just 2 minor things i would enjoy being added.
1. The option to remove the top right search bar. I pretty much use the address bar for this function now.
Also it would be nice if when using the address bar for a google search, if it would autocomplete as if your using google itself.2. The possibility to customise mouse gestures. I dont know how difficult this would be but if you could create custom gestures or even slightly remap existing ones or even better to allow multiple gestures for the same thing.
P.S Great browser, been using for over a month and no issues. Its been great out of the box

Love the program….
i use an extension called Gmail Notifier and the sound notification on it does NOT work in Vivaldi. The extension people tell me that Vivaldi doesn't offer that feature yet. will this be added anytime soon??
thanks.

- You can remove the search bar in settings|search.
- The latest snapshot release allows gesture customization!

why, drag to create window function is still missing?? It's one of the important features you want to have. I like Vivaldi, but it lacks some things on some fronts. I hope you will add it in the next update, if not I might as well go back to good old Chrome.

Man, I forgot how customizable Opera 12 was… you're absolutely right!

am a big fan of the quick commands menu. It would be nice if there were a way to use it to execute web searches.
You already can. Just use the search engine's nickname (keyword), e.g.
w Vivaldi
to search Wikipedia for articles on Vivaldi.

Just started using the browser about 30 minutes ago, and it's great, but it could definitely use several improvements:
1. Add a "show panel" button on the address bar. I think most of us prefer not to waste space with a status bar or the pointlessly gigantic "panel toggle" button.
2. Add an option to disable tab spacing ALWAYS. See my thread.
3. Make it so that tabs on the left and right are oriented the other way (taller than wide) to save space. Basically they should just be the same as they are on the top and the bottom, except rotated 90 degrees. Seriously, who wants their tab bar taking up a quarter of the window?
4. Move the buttons (Vivaldi, Garbage, and maybe even the new tab button) from the tab bar to the address bar. The tab bar is valuable real estate for us power users that open many tabs.
5. Get rid of the home button. Does anyone even use a home page any more?Of course some people would object to these, so ideally they should be optional.

Hi!
As a (now) former Firefox user, I am really excited about Vivaldi. There are two features that would make it perfect for me. They are…
[ol]
-
The ability to set private windows as the default setting in the privacy settings options (e.g. all new pages open up as private windows/tabs unless otherwise specified)
-
The ability to specify that all new tabs open up as background tabs unless otherwise specified (I know I can right click and choose "Open in Background Tab" vs. "Open in New Tab," but this is an extra step; and if I highlight text, right click, and choose the "search for" option it will still automatically switch me to this tab even if I am not ready to go there yet)
[/ol]
Thanks for your consideration and keep up the great work!

1. The option to remove the top right search bar.
There is an option for this. Just go to Settings > Search, and un-check "Search field in address bar"

I just entered the Vivaldi browserverse and have sung its praises over in the Welcome to the Forum thread, so I won't retread that path, except to say opening Vivaldi was almost like opening my already heavily configured and tweaked Pale Moon or Firefox.
So much of my high-speed, flashing fingers browsing is dependent on configuration of the tab bar (right vertical). Vivaldi already has me 3/4 of the way there, but I am uncertain what Chrome extensions can complete the experience, since few of them address the vertical tab bar scenario. So I'm not sure if this is a new feature request or just a search for an existing solution.
I'm looking for ways to customize the mouse, much like Tab Utilities and MouseControl do in Firefox, so I can right-click in the empty tab bar space to close the current tab or wheel-click to reopen the most recent tab. I know I can use mouse gestures, but that requires three steps compared to one - it may not seem like much, but given the way I daily beat my browser to a bloody pulp streaking through the web (and no, I don't browse in the nude!) and pile up dozens of windows and stacks and trigger multiple links in a page, it can add up. And additional steps multiplied across all those tabs can make browsing feel like trudging through molasses - something I know Vivaldi considers its arch-nemesis.
Are there mouse-tab bar control solutions available or is this something anticipated for future iterations? In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy exploring this astonishing accomplishment (for which I feel a proprietary pride, since my grandmother came from Norwegian stock!) and try to keep Vivaldi from whimpering at my unreasonable demands!

You can already configure mouse gestures, so you can fix it so that the simplest gestures do the tasks that you use the most often. I don't understand why you think it needs three steps to do GestureUp or GestureDown.
Menu customisation may be some way off yet, but I assume that it will come in time.
-
Been keeping a little list of features i want, from most pressing to least-but-nice-to-have:
-
Change button for mouse gestures. I strongly prefer drawing with middle click; I drag with right-click to scroll (via an add-on).
-
Ability to move icons around / hide them, as there's no reason to have to stare at every single installed add-on's icon 24/7.
-
Beyond that, an optional "add-on" bar like Firefox had for icons you occasionally need and want accessible. Preferably one that can autohide until you mouseover ala Puzzle Toolbars Firefox add-on.
-
Paste and go from Ctrl-V, so I can just point to the browser and hit the paste button (Ctrl-V) on my mouse to go to a clipboard URL. I do this frequently when I create new tabs in Firefox. I'm aware of the current paste-and-go shortcut but I'm specifically asking for Ctrl-V shortcut support because changing my mouse button's mapping would break paste in every other Windows program. Edit: Just tried changing the paste-and-go shortcut in vivaldi://settings/keyboard/ to Ctrl-V, I think that may suffice, barring any complications.
-
Ability to change search engine from omnibar. I like to hide the search box but when I do in Vivaldi the UI no longer lets me toggle between default search engine. The Omnibar add-on for Firefox supports this. (Yep, I know about keywords, and use those too.)

Stop reload button inside the addressbar. It feels wrong besides the back/forward.
