(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests
-
The way how Opera handles a new bookmark add right now gives some extra features.
You can select different images and zoom in or out for the icon picture. especially good for quick-start menu. This works great with some website where a small picture of the whole site just is not as recognizable as a small portion of it.
When you can select the bit you need to recognize it the quick-start will work way better!
I waited so long for a feature like this and now have to do without it again because I wan't to swap to Vivaldi without using Opera aside. I really would like if Vivaldi would implement a feature like it.

Could we have an option to only display the bookmarks bar on the start page please?
-
Been trying it out for half an hour, love it so far!
I have one feature request that would really nail things UI wise for me - "Tile stacking":
If I have tiled my tabs, and use tab stacking, it would be great if new tabs opened from a page in one tile STAY in that tile. So e.g. if I have two tiles side by side, and I open a tab from a link in the left one, it automatically gets tab stacked with that tab, and should also be "tile stacked", so that when I switch between tabs in that stack, they all stay in that tile.
Thanks!

I have a couple of feature requests that i feel would be really useful.
1. The ability to drag selected text from a webpage to the tab bar, thus creating a new tab with a web search for that selection. (right now works only when dragging selection to address bar)2. The ability to middle click a page from previous/next page list to clone the tab from that page or just open that page in new tab

Some feature requests from a Firefox user:
-When using the horizontal menu, it should be enough to just move the mouse cursor over an entry without having to click it to expand the entry's menu (every other browser does that).
-The window size of the settings dialogue should be saved, currently you have to resize it every time you open the settings.
-When changing tabs by scrolling with the mouse wheel, it should be possible to do so without having to move the cursor over an already opened tab, it should also change tabs with the mouse wheel when the cursor is just placed at the tab bar without having to aim at an already existing tab.
-Some more context menu settings for tabs would be nice like with Tab Mix Plus in Firefox, e.g. close left and right tabs from the active tab etc.
-When using automatic scrolling with middle mouse button on websites, it would be nice if the autoscroll symbol would appear instantly and not after a delay of a hundred milliseconds or so.
-The browser can easily be crashed by holding ctrl + t to open lots of new tabs in a very short time. There should be a little cooldown when holding it so that one can't freeze or crash the browser by opening hundreds of tabs in a period of very few seconds.
-When there is an extremely high amount of tabs opened, the size of each tab in the tab bar currently gets too small. A bigger minimal size of each tab should be defined (or an option should by implemented to let the user choose it).
-Unread tabs should be marked with a more noticeable sign than the small triangle in the upper right corner. Tab Mix Plus in Firefox by default makes the fonts of unread tabs red, which is a good solution imho.
-Please implement a RSS feed reader for the bookmark bar like in Firefox.Edit: One more thing:
-When I do a middle mouse button click at the homepage button, it should open it in a new tab and not in the current tab like with left mouse button click. -
Hi
Some features I would like to see:
[ul]- A hard one, but I would like to see synchronisation between Google Chrome and Vivaldi using a Google account. If impossible, then just synchronisation using a Google account.
[/ul]
This is the one thing holding me back from switching completely. I rely too much on Chrome synchronizing bookmarks, autofills, and extensions.
If we had that capability in Vivaldi, I'd be a full-time convert.

Often requested since v1 was released, often rebutted from old-time Opera users (like me) who want absolutely nothing like that for Google to get their grubby little hands on…

I am a long, long time Opera user and fan and this is my first post on this forum. I consider old Opera the best browser ever developed with huge potential but buried by stubbornness in fixing the site compatibility issues especially for those essential to large mass of users.
I started using Vivaldi about 4 months ago, sporadically as it is not stable and feature full enough for me.I have a list of features I much appreciated in Opera and not present in Vivaldi - yet, or may never be implemented but here they are:
I will start with is the most important of all - Pleas do not make this browser universal. Keep separate versions for destkop and mobile/tablets as the user requirements are much different. Do not implement tablet features in the desktop version.
I wanted to emphasize this because I looked a bit through the forum and I saw many requests for features useful on tablets but annoying on a desktop.1. Extended right click menu on pages. I miss especially the "Edit site Preferences" from which most useful in business environment was "Identify as" - some internal websites only accept certain browsers.
2. Also miss the "Reload every" feature - this is especially useful for websites that should constantly updating content but intermittently fail to do so. In addition to full screen mode and tile option Opera was an excellent browser for Q monitor in support environments.
3. Password manager - I know this is in the works but wanted to mention.
4. Session manager - allow to save certain sessions.
5. History panel
5. Stability - I am a very heavy user and stable browser with 30-50 open tabs is a must for me.
8. Speed - presently the browser is too slow to "open link in new window" (approx 3 sec)The present version has many bugs and issues starting with the theme, sticky at times vertical scroll, inability to drag/drop links in bookmarks panel or on the folders in the bookmarks bar.

disable visual tabs: a setting to disable them, i always close tabs with middle click, and end up enabling visual tabs by error while clicking on the separator.
and when i have a ton of tabs open, it gets really slow if that happens!, had to kill vivaldi process a few times because of this

Overall I'd like to say I'm really impressed with Vivaldi!
Just a couple of issues I'm having with this relating to bookmarks.Firstly,
I'd like to request a bookmarks button in the UI, something similar to firefox - a button that drops down a list of bookmarks.Secondly,
I'm using the Vivaldi panel for bookmarks now, it's not what I want but it works.
I've added a "web panel" for whatsapp web which is an awesome feature, however re-sizing it also re-sizes the bookmarks menu.
I'd love it if each section of the panel could be independently re-sized, so my bookmarks menu doesn't need to be huge for my whatsapp panel to work! -
I want to sync bookmarks/history between devices using Vivaldi.
-
- I think there should be a setting for forcing a specified font, overriding CSS of websites.
-
You should introduce a setting for forcing a specified font for all websites with latin character set.

I wanted to emphasize this because I looked a bit through the forum and I saw many requests for features useful on tablets but annoying on a desktop.I find this an odd request… surely it is much much easier to have a single package where you can either:
a) as a user simply ignore options meant for other platforms / form-factors
b) have simple switches for these options in the settings
c) have the browser recognise and adapt to whatever environment it's running inTo me this is far simpler to implement and maintain than keeping track (and debugging) different versions of the same features across multiple versions of the final package. Also as a user there will be a more cohesive experience between devices if most of the options are where you expect them to be and function as you expect them to function - just with small differences if they're (automatically) set up for different screen sizes or input devices.

I would like more power over the hibernate tab feature. Here's the stuff I would like…
1. Tabs should automatically hibernate without manually telling them to.
2. The user should have control over the automatic hibernation process:
- Setting Vivaldi's overall memory use threshold before hibernating tabs in least recently used order (allows for a target memory footprint).
- Alternatively, setting the global memory usage before hibernating tabs in least recently used order (allows for consuming as much memory as possible, but freeing memory when other apps need it).
- Alternatively, setting the tab's maximum idle time before hibernating it (focuses on least memory use to allow other processes like file cache to fill as much as possible; e.g. allow 0-second to unload tabs as soon as possible, I'd probably pick this with a number around 2 minutes).
- Enable/Disable auto hibernation of tabs that are currently producing audio.
- Provide a whitelist/blacklist to never auto hibernate certain websites or only auto hibernate certain websites.
- Provide a whitelist/blacklist to always load a fresh copy from the web when a tab is resumed or always load a fresh copy from the web except for the specified websites. SECURITY ADVISORY bank websites and the like should never store their state on disk; I don't know how tab hibernate works with these websites currently.

I'm pretty sure most of the stuff in this thread will fall to the deaf ears.
Even so, I'd like a checkbox in the settings to center images when viewed instead of docking them to the left top corner.
Also put in a browser auto-updater while you're at it.
Oh and don't forget to fix the weird short white flashes when you switch between tabs or close them.Ahh it feels so futile to even ask… Maybe in 2020...

Bookmark Tagging
Another feature I am still missing is tagging for bookmarks. Current state is, that you can enter a text as a description. If you enter a sequence of words in the URL field, which is also in a description you might see that bookmark being suggested, but only if you enter the words in exactly the same order as in the description of the bookmark.
A tagging system would work even if you only enter some of the tags and if you add other words in between as well. So far I've only seen this in Firefox and I don't know if the old Opera had it or not.
Maybe it could be introduced additionally to the input fields offered when creating a bookmark.

Hey guys, just discovered Vivaldi today. I was a huge fan of the old & true Opera and so I was pleasantly surprised.
Currently I would have 3 suggestions regarding new features:
1. For web development, I see the Developer Tools is the same as for Opera/Chromium but it currently lacks 2 very important features:
A. There is no device simulation / responsive mode available
B. There is no way to dock the window to the currently open browser window - this gives the Dev tools a really separate feeling and makes it hard to properly test websites, specially when having a lot of tabs with dev tools open.2. It would be really cool if you could allow/enable single key shortcut binding. I know this can be an invitation to some weird browsing issues, but I believe it's solely the end user's responsibility. This way we can replicate the behavior in current Opera where pressing 1 or 2 without any page element focused will navigate to previous and next tab respectively.
3. The current scroll factor feels a bit too low for me. It would nice to either increase it by a bit or even better to allow a setting slider for users to control it as they want. Another solution would be to rely on the OS scrolling coefficients (or would that be too inconsistent?)
That's it for the moment. Keep up the great work!

Hi, before I start this request I would just like to say that being a new piece of software, the Vivaldi browser is really fluid and bug free and better than most browsers in terms of usability. But enough of that, onto the request!
Vivaldi is almost perfect to me but one this one feature would be the icing on the cake. The ability to set a custom URL to a new tab page. As most Vivaldi users are probably aware, the default page for new tab page and the startup page is the Vivaldi speed dial. Don't get me wrong if you like and find the speed dial useful then this is great but I think that for some people they would like to see a way to change the URL of this. This feature has already been implemented into the startup page and I think it would be really great to be able to change on the new tab page.
I have also spoken to some of my friends who have recently found and been familiarising themselves with the browser and they have also agreed with this idea. Thanks for reading this, Alfie Fogg

There should be an export bookmarks to html feature in the bookmarks panel. Preferably by right clicking on the map. If there already is, it should be easier to locate. It's not in the bookmarks tab in settings and there's no option for it when right-clicking a bookmarks folder.
It would also be great if there is a way to immediately save bookmarks to a certain folder. The only bookmarks tab I use is the bookmarks toolbar I used in Firefox. I really don't care about any other way of saving my bookmarks. The bookmark system works waaaay to complicated at the moment.
