(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests
-
Now that Vivaldi supports selecting which tab to select when an old tab is closed, would it please be possible to add shortcut to the different closing options? So that I would, for example, close a tab and select the left one with CTRL+F4, and close a tab and select the right one with CTRL+F5. That would be extremely useful for my typical use cases.

Ported Feature: Chrome omnibar autosuggest deletion (Shift+Del)
NOTE: This is not for History or Bookmarks, I am not talking about removing history links from the omnibar suggestion dropdown, but rather removing the autocompleted text which appears highlighted in blue directly to the right of the carat where you are typing in the bar itself (not below it).
In Chrome, when you start typing it makes autosuggested completions that update as you continue to type. At any time, you can press Shift+del to permenently remove an auto suggest.
I've reported a bug on why the lack of this feature poses a very real security risk, but at the end of the day it's a HUGE quality-of-life feature for me.
I've personally trained chrome what websites I want for each letter:
[ul]- r <enter>goes to Reddit.com.</enter>
- n <enter>goes to new.ycombinator.com</enter>
- f <enter>goes to Facebook.com</enter>
[/ul]
I can do this because in Chrome when I hit r, and it suggests say rainymood.com, I hit Shift+Del and it goes away, and I keep trying until it suggests my desired end. From that point forward, when I hit that single letter I get my result.
In Vivaldi, the VERY FIRST selected autocomplete becomes totally permanent. For example:
[ul]- r <enter>goes to Google: Ramekin</enter>(google searched it once, it's now my permanent for "r"… yay......)
- n <enter>goes to Google: numerical Model Prediction - Tropical Tidbits</enter>
- f <enter>goes to fusion.net/story/287592/internet-mapping-glitch-kansas-farm/</enter>
[/ul]
As you can tell, these auto-completed suggestions are utterly, totally and completely worthless to me. In fact they're worse: they're actively wrong and misleading and greatly reduce my ability to use the address bar quickly.
Security Risk
Many unscrupulous malware makers buy domain names that are very similar to real domains, but shifted by one letter. They try to buy domains that are the result of a typo when typing a real popular domain.
Due to the fact that I cannot remove autosuggestions AND they become permanent, anytime you fatfinger a website and type the wrong URL in, Vivaldi will then PERMANENTLY direct you to the malware ridden fake page.
Example:
1. Type reddit.co instead of reddit.com (this shouldn't be a malware page, just an ad-ridden landing page)
2. Congratulations, the only string which will now get you to the real reddit.com website is reddit.com. any other truncation will always result in the broken reddit.co result forcing you to literally type every single letter in the url so that Vivaldi doesn't helpfully force you into the broken domain.I have great hope for Vivaldi and love using it but I'm not sure I can get past this. It seems minor but you can only Google search "ramekins" so many times per day before you realize that you just need to switch back to known working software.

I don't know if it has been asked already, looking through 100+ pages is just too much, but I'd love to see the browser extension model receive additional API calls for those functions and features Vivaldi offers that other chromium-based browsers don't. There is a reason why I'm writing it this way and not simply mention a specific API call. I'd appreciate it a lot if developers would start to consider the extension API whenever they introduce new features: does it make sense for this feature to receive an API call and if so, what exactly should the extension be able/allowed to do?
Two (edit: three) current features I'd love to extend with my own code are:
Tab Stacks. The right-click functionality on tab-headers doesn't offer me enough options to use the feature extensively. I miss the old Opera-like stacks, which the user could open and close, thus saving lots of space on the tab-bar, but retaining the option to show all stacked tabs as a list of full-sized tab headers if necessary. I don't think I could replicate this with an extension, but the current interpretation of tab stacking loses its usefulness in a productive environment after half a dozen tabs already. I could by far extend this, if an extension was allowed to control tab stacks and display a list of all tabs in the current stack.
Hibernation. For those people who desire to use their browser more extensively, the process-per-tab structure creates a potential memory issue sooner rather than later. There are no problems on my current machine (16GB RAM), but as soon as I'm on my laptop, I have to cut back on the number of tabs. That's why I'm so happy about the hibernation feature, which became even greater in the latest 1.1 version, where the user is now able to hibernate single tabs instead of hibernating all background tabs. Sadly, I suspect it's going to be quite a bit of work to keep up with hibernating tabs manually, especially since the theme doesn't provide a visual indicator if a tab has been hibernated or not. I'd love to write an extension that would automatically hibernate all tabs that haven't been visited by the user in a certain time-frame. Of course, some tabs should never be hibernated, such as the Spotify web player streaming my music in the background, to name only one potential example.
Edit: Quick Commands. It would be beyond cool, if extensions could register additional commands to the F2 Quick Commands function. Sometimes when you're writing a lot of text and both of your hands are on the keyboard, it's extremely inconvenient to move one hand to the mouse, find the cursor on the screen and then move through one or more (sub-)menus to hit the function you desire only to continue typing afterward. That's why I believe that skipping this step could be a benefit to my usability, not only with pre-existing commands but also those added by extensions.

Excellent browser. It's weird if this hasn't been mentioned before, but a search result turned up nothing, so:
Would it be possible to be able to customize/disable your own mouse gestures? For instance, so that right-click + down = stop. -
Some features I would like to see, as of 1.1.453.47:
[ul]
- History sidebar with Ctrl+H (use something else for Notes)
- Image Properties dialog in images' context menu
- Optional tree-style tab stacks in tab sidebar
- Rearrangable extension icons
- Separators in bookmarks
- Menu bar that behaves more like a native one
- Speed Dial should not remain first in tab history after you open a new tab and navigate to an actual page, i.e. it should act like about:blank (or if not, we should be able to set about:blank as the new tab page)
- common.css should @import a custom.css file controlled by the user, so customizations would (a) be easier to make (separate from the browser's own styles) and (b) persist across browser updates.
[/ul]

Bringing up all the items I still use Opera 12 for.
1. Synchronized notes between browser installs.
2. Integrated Email Client
3. IRC client (lower on the list). Thanks,
-Damon -
Basically a Session Sync feature!
-
Make it so that if you close the final tab it closes the browser like most other browsers do. Optionally have this toggleable.
Also, an integrated RSS feeder (like Maxthon had) would be nice but is more of an extra.

My suggestion:
- Dropped text on tabs-bar is searched by default browser search engine (like in FF or chrome).
-
I would prefer the tab selector higher than now. I always put my cursor in the space immediatly after the tabs, and I accidentally resize the browser's window. I attached an image of the part, just to be sure that is clear. I don't understand if there is a reson to leave the tabs selector of this size.

I have found 5 things that I'd like some of which is kinda a big deal.
1. Math in the search bar. I can't do my basic calculations with out a new webpage or an actual calculator. Please implement this calculator.
2. Auto update- I am not sure about this but I have no Idea how to go to 1.1 without actually downloading the new version manually. Not really a big deal but I won't easily hear about updates.
3. TOUCH SCREEN! I use a surface and Windows 10 and when I touch my screen on Vivaldi, nothing happens. It's as if I never touched it.
4. Close window with ctl+w when there is only one tab… Not too big of a deal but yeah.
5. If you've heard of vimium, one feature of that I really liked was, pressing f, then lets you select any clickable item on the screen with a certian key combo which is indicated. This would be really nice instead of having to navigate with wasd.

Okay Bunch of feedback coming from a heavy user of FF and Chrome:
- If I have the panel hidden and I press the key combination to see the downloads once I press the combination back the panel should be hidden.
-Option for panel up and down - Option to disable the "button effect" on the icons of extensions
-Option to make the colour of the bookmark bar the same as the colour of the tab
-Automatically open panel of downloads (IDK, the option seems to be there, but it doesn’t work?)
-Make the bar on the top a little less tall, as some pointed out the tabs are don't fit the entire bar (Don't make the tabs taller)
-Make the icons of folders (bookmark) a little taller and less transparent
-Option to make parts of the url colour grey (not the domain), as chrome or FF
-Option to integrate the search in the direction bar with the direction bar
-Option to hide the trash (and move it)
-Option to hide the HTTPS certified (In this webpage Vivaldi Technologies AS [NO]
-Option to import cookies from other browsers
-(MAYBE: Option to import extensions from chrome?, not a big deal, but would be super cool)
-The already mentioned Sync with Vivaldi account
-Be able to take tabs into windows taking them apart (implement it the way GC does)
-(Is it me or the browser doesn't support the English corrector?)
-Downloads webpage (like history option)
-Downloads bar (like GC)
-(MAYBE: Make the vivaldi icon, once pressed, more like FF (more visual)
-Solve the weird bug with F11 (makes the windows like 1/4 or 1/5 for a milisecond and expands it again.
-Auto Update
- If I have the panel hidden and I press the key combination to see the downloads once I press the combination back the panel should be hidden.

Bookmarks Manager: Split View
Like it was in Opera12 -
As I've posted elsewhere I'd like have to the "Always on Top" feature for windows.
I believe Chrome restricts this being applied by external applications, so this is something that Vivaldi would have to support themselves, if that is even possible.
I don't find "Panels" to be a usable alternative. -
This is a addition for VB-4113 from last Spring.
Session management must should still be expanded.
Marked (summarized) tabs and Tab-Stacks like they are, save as a new Session, or ad to a existing Session.
I miss a startup query, whether and which session when starting to open.
But not all would a startup query.
Please provide an Option in the Main Settings.Currently open sessions only in the 1st window. Does not go
The Windows overflows directly and is extremely confusing. Also the detour via CTRL + N, and then in the new window open a session, it will open in the first Window.
So simple query: open session in a new window? Would be now intended as a hotfix.
If I then opened a Session in a separate Window and it worked, if I close the Window again, this Session can be stored again.
For example.
1. The default Session that always is automatically saved without extra naming. Perhaps with the name normal or standard.2. If an existing Session in a new Window is opened, the Window gets the Name of the Session. At close, it is then automatically saved.
Because not everyone automatically would have updated a existing session, a query or a select switch fitted in the settings. Then please allow all possible Settings in the Main Settings under Session Management.
In Addition, I would like to congratulate the whole Team for the excellent Work.

The way how Opera handles a new bookmark add right now gives some extra features.
You can select different images and zoom in or out for the icon picture. especially good for quick-start menu. This works great with some website where a small picture of the whole site just is not as recognizable as a small portion of it.
When you can select the bit you need to recognize it the quick-start will work way better!
I waited so long for a feature like this and now have to do without it again because I wan't to swap to Vivaldi without using Opera aside. I really would like if Vivaldi would implement a feature like it.
-
Could we have an option to only display the bookmarks bar on the start page please?
-
Been trying it out for half an hour, love it so far!
I have one feature request that would really nail things UI wise for me - "Tile stacking":
If I have tiled my tabs, and use tab stacking, it would be great if new tabs opened from a page in one tile STAY in that tile. So e.g. if I have two tiles side by side, and I open a tab from a link in the left one, it automatically gets tab stacked with that tab, and should also be "tile stacked", so that when I switch between tabs in that stack, they all stay in that tile.
Thanks!

I have a couple of feature requests that i feel would be really useful.
1. The ability to drag selected text from a webpage to the tab bar, thus creating a new tab with a web search for that selection. (right now works only when dragging selection to address bar)2. The ability to middle click a page from previous/next page list to clone the tab from that page or just open that page in new tab
-
Some feature requests from a Firefox user:
-When using the horizontal menu, it should be enough to just move the mouse cursor over an entry without having to click it to expand the entry's menu (every other browser does that).
-The window size of the settings dialogue should be saved, currently you have to resize it every time you open the settings.
-When changing tabs by scrolling with the mouse wheel, it should be possible to do so without having to move the cursor over an already opened tab, it should also change tabs with the mouse wheel when the cursor is just placed at the tab bar without having to aim at an already existing tab.
-Some more context menu settings for tabs would be nice like with Tab Mix Plus in Firefox, e.g. close left and right tabs from the active tab etc.
-When using automatic scrolling with middle mouse button on websites, it would be nice if the autoscroll symbol would appear instantly and not after a delay of a hundred milliseconds or so.
-The browser can easily be crashed by holding ctrl + t to open lots of new tabs in a very short time. There should be a little cooldown when holding it so that one can't freeze or crash the browser by opening hundreds of tabs in a period of very few seconds.
-When there is an extremely high amount of tabs opened, the size of each tab in the tab bar currently gets too small. A bigger minimal size of each tab should be defined (or an option should by implemented to let the user choose it).
-Unread tabs should be marked with a more noticeable sign than the small triangle in the upper right corner. Tab Mix Plus in Firefox by default makes the fonts of unread tabs red, which is a good solution imho.
-Please implement a RSS feed reader for the bookmark bar like in Firefox.Edit: One more thing:
-When I do a middle mouse button click at the homepage button, it should open it in a new tab and not in the current tab like with left mouse button click.
