(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests
-
I've tabs at the right side and at the beginning of using Vivaldi it was very irritating, that the pagename was above the tab. In good old O12 it's under the tab. Would be nice, if we could change this behavior
(P.S. it's still irritating ) -

(P.S. it's still irritating )I complained of this from early on. Unfortunately my habit has begun to change and now, if it changes to the O12 way, I will have to adjust again. BUT - happy to do it.

A URL bar in speed dial would be awesome. That way it can be disabled without much inconvenience.
-
I would like to suggest a mechanism to open a link in a new tab in a specified destination window.
This behaviour could take the form of offering the user a selection of target windows from which to choose. This would be advantageous if you're researching related topics. For example working on javascript and you want to collect all the pages relating to jquery in one window and regular javascript in another.
An alternative behaviour would be that all links on one domain open in a window for that domain.
-
Another feature which I would like to suggest would be site preferences and different sorts of compatibility modes.
I work with an old version of Bugzilla and that only renders properly in IE in compatibility mode. This is a very selfish request I know but I'm sure there must be other sites out there which would benefit also.
-
Site preferences are sure to come. I imagine so is "open in…" to select another browser to open an incompatible site in.
Compatibility mode? This would be EXTREMELY complex to code I think, so I'm rather less certain about that.
-
Yet another feature that I like to suggest is opera like labels in the email application. Being able to group emails into sets I find very useful.
And in a related request which I'm not sure is even practical, the Email client should provide native Exchange Server connectivity. I haven't found anything on the desktop that can function and provide the same access as Outlook. Please note I'm not talking about web-mail or imap, smtp or other such tools.
-
There are two views which might be taken with regard to the compatibility modes. The first that I got from Opera is that Opera is able to mask or identify as IE or Firefox.
The second view which is more complex but a lot of the differences and features of the various main stream browser are all well documented. Your right though it would be a lot of work! But the ability to select an advanced rendering option might suit a power user.
I think this would be a very specialist feature.
-
This is probably a huge display of ignorance but I can only go with what I see.
Often when I visit pages from a domain, the structure and css for each page is the same but it seems to me that each page is loaded and rendered independently, javascript must be initialised to the same start values all over again. So I'm wondering why can't all that work be cached for pages where the underlying code is the same but have different content?
This is my thought.
Thank you.

Awesome feature list already in the technical previews of Vivaldi. But the following functions would be great:
-
Please add an option for a warn dialog on browser exit, if more than one tab is opened.
-
Please add the possibility to disable the hard drive cache, like Firefox does.
-
Please add site specific preferences.

I didn't read all the replys on this thread, so I apologize if something mentioned by me was already mentioned earlyer.
Requests:
-Deciding what happens when opening a new tab. Position (next to current ab, far right, etc.), Focus (focus on new tab or current tab) [I'm currently using an addon as workaround called "SimpleTabOrder"]-Being able to drag tabs out of the windows and creating a new windows that way
-Fix on an issue concerning dragging tabs/tab order in the top bar. While dragging the behaviour of the tabs doesn't feel as smooth as in other browsers.
-Fix a bug I encounter while in the options screen. The options menu seems fine until I switche the tabs the 2nd time in said menu. I'm not able to switch to other tabs. instead i have to close and reopen the options menu
-The search engine option is bugging in the option menu. Im not abe to add new engines or select engines. Also prewritten it says "false".
-
addition:
- media keys on keyboards arent working

Hi,
In Opera, you can display the level of zoom of the page in the UI, as a percentage, and place that pretty much anywhere. I use the zooming function a lot, so I'd love to have that in Vivaldi as well.

- Reload/Abort
A Problem which occurs in every browser is the to cancel the loading of pages by clicking at the X-Button when loading has finished only a split of second before. The whole site beginns to load again because in real you have clicked the reload button…
It would be very nice to build a solution for this. It would be another unique characteristic for Vivaldi.
My idea how to show it: If the browser finishes while the cursor is upon the X-Button the X should become lowered a few pixel, a gray line appears overhead and the reload circle becomes visible at the lower part. Clicking on it moves the X down out and get replaces by the reload circle.
I hope that someone understand what I want to say^^

I'd like to minimize tabs as in O12.
(What I really want: Read a page, and move on to the next with mouse gestures without closing it, and not getting back to it when I close the next tab for real, but rather go on reading all the pages I just opened.)

I would like to see a traffic counter. I am creating internet sites by myself. I am fussy about traffic and always trying to bring it to an absolute minimum. Often it is very inconvenient to get the traffic which was used for a domain in numbers, after clicking and trying for a while. So a overview about the used traffic, broken up (or down) to the domains (and subdomains), would be cool.

REQUEST: Tab Stack Series: I would like to be able to generate new tabs within a tab stack. I often don't use the tab stack because it's a secondary, manual step to stack tabs. I really like this feature but I still find myself with an unmanageable amount of tabs overhead. Being able to add a tab within a stack would clean up the experience quite a bit.

Not sure how many people think this….
I like the tab preview when off to the side. I'd kinda like the previews to be available at the top of the screen as well.

They are, actually. Simply drag the bottom of the tab bar downward to expose them.

Built-in Perspectives functionality
http://perspectives-project.orgBad News:
It seems that the Perspectives extension cannot be made for Chrome, because the devs will not allow extensions to override the browser.
On the one hand I can see Googles point, but I use Perspectives, Calomel, and HTTPS Everywhere because they do exactly that.
I don't trust Mozilla to think of everything, and I don't trust Google to think of everything.
No offence, but I also don't expect the Vivaldi devs to think of everything.
I don't like only having a "plan-A" with no backup.I propose that the Perspectives code be made a part of the browser as an optional security feature, so that it can do its job.
Either that or the Vivaldi devs make provision for trusted extensions of a type that effect security, and provide a managed page for distribution.Ultimately, if Vivaldi cannot use such extensions as these, or include the functionality internally, I will never be able to trust it as much as Firefox.
