Mail client window empty
-
Hi,
I'm trying to use the mail client.
I configured 2 different accounts. The preview is working.
But the mail window stays empty.
I assume the reason is the big root directory of my private account which is pretty big after 14 years of using (didn't cound them yet).
Any idea what I could do except tidying up my mail account?

@ichthys
Hi, is it possible you want to open the mail in another window?
You can use the mail client only in one window, at moment.Cheers, mib
-
Hi @mib2berlin
no, I don't use it in different windows.
Just one window is active at the moment. -
Have the same problem.
Running Pop!_OS Linux and 4.0.2312.25 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit) and tied to two Gmail accounts.
-
How many mails do you have in the inbox folder?
I can't count them but I assume way more than 20 000. -
Ok. Then we simply have to wait for the developers.
-
@ichthys @crystalattice @ferdiG I would just like to verify here...
Which view are you looking at?
The Unread view would be empty if you've already marked all your messages as read.
If you try to click on the Received view (which is all messages you've received in your setup accounts), do you see the same there? Also do you see the same in the folders under the account?
-
For myself, the mail icon appears in the bottom left corner of the browser.
Opening that shows the two Gmail accounts and most recent emails. Clicking on "Show Mail" opens the Mail tab, which is empty.
So there is no Unread view, no Received view, no Compose, or anything. I can open individual emails via the lower-left icon, if they are within the last five received, but anything else cannot be accessed.
-
@crystalattice You do not have any of the Panel icons for mail/contacts etc.
Maybe you are having the problem which was solved in update(2) for 4.0
https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/minor-update-2-for-vivaldi-desktop-browser-4-0/ -
@TbGbe @Gwen-Dragon
Updating to 4.0.2312.27 appears to have fixed the problem. I wasn't aware that a minor point release had been made available after I installed.
-
@crystalattice (I was writing this too, but @TbGbe and @Gwen-Dragon were faster, but I'll just put it here with a picture to be clear)
That's a bug that was fixed that the mail panel was not being enabled. Should be out in Stable build on Saturday https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/minor-update-2-for-vivaldi-desktop-browser-4-0/
If you still don't see the mail panel after that minor update then you can right click on the panel and pick mail/calendar/feeds/contacts from the update panel.
-
Press f4 to open the panel bar. Then right-Click below the little plus sign under the icons for history, bookmarks etc (Screenshots above by others) and select to show mail
-
I can confirm.
You must enable the mail in the panel. If you do so it is working, at least for me. Without enabling it the icon at the bottom just opens an empty window. -
I don't know if that's the same issue, but I see all my mail accounts and the inbox. But when I click on a mail, I only see the header info but no email body. Instead of the body, I only see a white page...
-
@burnham not the same issue but an issue nonetheless.
If you right click the header and choose to show the raw message content, does it show everything there? Do you have prefetching enabled or not? (if not maybe it's a problem that the message body is not downloaded)

I have prefetch enabled and when I click to show the raw data, nothing happens. The mail log only shows one error. I am not sure what it means or if it is at all related:
-
I'm at a loss regarding that error message, does not seem related (did you click the email before checking the log? And we are talking Vivaldi mail, not webmail, right?
). Anyway, the problem you report doesn't seem connected to the original problem discussed in this thread, but sounds a lot more like what @Durtro is posting about here: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/66069/unfetchable-email-message-makes-account-unusable-with-prefetching-enabled
Sorry, I cannot help with the actual problem.
-
That's ok -- thanks for taking a look. Really appreciate it!
Btw. I am talking about two gmail accounts set up in Vivaldi's new in-browser mail feature. Not sure whether that's "webmail" or "vivaldi mail"...
It also turns out I no longer receive any emails. It downloaded my emails right after setup and then just stopped working. Both gmail accounts are set up just fine and refresh does nothing. I'll just remove them again and will continue my search for how to have an integrated email/calendar experience on my laptop without having my browser be slowed down, as apparently, gmail on the web is unusable if you need to have two tabs of it open (even with GPU).
I tried every browser under the sun. Desktop clients (outlook, thunderbird) are all shit esp. if you need to show multiple accounts in your calendar, and I did not want to use a client for email and web for calendar.
The only solution I've found is to restart and clean cache frequently, even though I don't want to do that... Amazing that in 2021, email+calendar on non-mobile devices sucks so much...
-
@burnham Vivaldi is getting there... It is in beta...
Gmail works just fine for me. Maybe it works better for you of you start off without prefetching... Just guessing.
