Solved High CPU

YouTube videos in Vivaldi cause 50% CPU !!!
YouTube videos in Vivaldi cause 50% CPU, which is clearly too much, and I only watch YouTube videos at 720p. The only thing that helps is to close Vivaldi. I deleted all browser data for a test and then tried to watch YouTube videos again, but nothing changes, yet Vivaldi causes 50% CPU again. How can I fix this error?

I apologize for the scare tactics here. I have identified the problem, the software "Nielsen Online" has consumed so much CPU for me.
The problem is R E S O L V E D

Hi,
All browser data means Cache or Clean Profile?
I've seen that AV1 codec uses more CPU than the VP9 or 264x.
Some of them seems to be blocked to convert with 264ify.
Check the codec, right click | stats for nerds and try on some other videos.
High follower channel seems forced to AV1.--
Also,
Each time, Add your V version and since when happens.

Where do you get that number, Vivaldi task manager or Windows?
clearly too much
Too much compared to what?
It depends on your system. What is your system specs and OS?
Any example URLs?
Have you compared to other browsers?
Have you compared to older versions of Vivaldi?Have you tried in a clean profile?
-
I think I have found the cause: I had uBlockOrigin set very sharp. This deactivated and Now YouTube videos run very quietly. can that have been the cause?
-
@stardepp I don't know what "very sharp" means. What were your uBO settings?
-
@stardepp , I have observed that the use of system resources is higher on YouTube, than watching the same video on the CloudTube front-end, I think that, at least in part, it is a problem of a poor design of the page and less in the video per se. Although personally I have not found excessive CPU usage on YouTube.

-
@stardepp That does look pretty "sharp"
Maybe one of the lists blocking a script caused YT to misbehave. Impossble to say, you would need to use Devtools and look at the uBlock logger to figure it out on your end.
Well at least it seems sorted out now
PS don't listen to people telling you to add a bajillion lists to a blocker. Those people don't know what they're talking about. The defaults are more than enough for most.
-
Unfortunately, this still happens, even without uBlockorigin:
-
@stardepp 20% don't seem too bad. How much would you expect YT videos to take?
-
-
@stardepp OK so 50% accumulated for all your Vivaldi processes is pretty high. But it ain't 97% so the rest comes from all those other processes, including Win Defender.
Like I asked earlier have you tested on other browsers or older versions of Vivaldi? What about a clean profile?
-
@Pathduck Even in a new and clean Vivaldi profile, YouTube consumes so much CPU. In Firefox, YouTube behaves very quietly.
-
i have discovered myself that the cpu usage varies with varying different youtube videos. There is no consistency with the high cpu usage.
Are different codecs being used for different videos etc.?
-
Read second post.
-
While the CPU amount varies by system, I found this stuck CPU use phenomenon also occurring on another browser not named Chrome recently (but not the previous version of that same browser, so until now I assumed it was entirely the fault of the browser). And in that case you don't even need to necessarily be playing videos. Just browsing through your YT subscriptions is enough.
It was tied to YT cookies, of all things, though we have no idea why. When it happens again, go to the padlock, click into cookies, and delete the two sets of YT cookies there. Does it make an immediate difference?
If not, different issue. The bad news: it's just a very temporary fix anyway.

Spyware, like other crap in YT which slow down the site.
