Webpage translation support and a new panel design – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2238.3
-
Hmmm, again weird priorities. You shipped final product where tabs can't be rearranged in InPrivate Window and instead pushing fix for that to stable asap, you point resources to other, not so important things.
-
Forum and Help Web Panels can be removed, but reappear on restarting the browser.
-
@enc0re: I understand this looks like weird priorities, but the translations and panel design work is done by entirely different teams than those that work on Tabs.
It's a high priority issue, obviously, and will be fixed once we have a good solution. -
@Pesala No restart required, opening a new window resets all web panels. That is, it even removes manually added web panels.
-
The new panel is so cool - attention to detail really shows (e.g. it shows the page peeking through if it's set to floating mode).
-
under impressed goes nowhere near - i use a heavily modified theme/skin a few mods of my own but mostly mods i have found on here and its a mess
no windows buttons top right
tabs do not work - they show but cannot be opened
bookmarks highlight backgrounds changed
bookmarks moved to right in panel
extension icons enlarged and cover part of tabbaretc etc
all to work on i guess - not impressed and am dumping this snapshot
-
@pesala: We already have a fix for this coming up
-
@adacom This is the price of using mods + snapshots I'm afraid. If you want stability use Stable or be prepared to fix the stuff you mod when it breaks.
-
@pesala: Yes. A bug which is fixed but did not make it into this build. Next build should fix it, but not the fist time you run it. There is a flag controlling upgrade code that is missing and it needs to be set before it will work.
-
The translator should memorize the pages selected for the translation and / or translate into the default language without a pop-up window.
-
@Pathduck said in Webpage translation support and a new panel design – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2238.3:
OK first thing: It breaks any menu customisations. Basically any json files in profile are deleted - good thing I do regular backups!
Custom Menus were kept here.
-
The ability to add a custom image within the settings page would be most welcome.
-
@Zalex108 same here, My custom menus are still intact
-
Here's an idea, let the internal pages have that sweet opacity and blur effect as well
(That is
vivaldi://settings
,vivaldi://bookmarks
,vivaldi://history
,vivaldi://notes
) -
Translating some japanese web pages worked so far, very nice.
-
@adacom Well yes, the UI changes and Vivaldi devs obviously can’t consider mods, that would be impossible. Gotta rewrite the mods. For me personally only the history clock mod broke.
-
@Pathduck - true other than snapshot or stable the problems/changes will have to be addressed sooner or later
just frustrating i guess but as you say its the nature of the thing but makes the statement that the browser is totally configurable a bit hollow when changes break user configuration

Would be nice to ship the New WebPanels with Separate Width.
-
@espen Actually, does it even make sense to add these WPs for people who have already customised them? Shouldn’t they only be the ‘default’?
