It's about time – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2202.3
-
Has something in the internal permissions changed?
chrome.tabs.executeScript
doesn’t seem to want to trigger anymore when called from the user interface. -
[Themes][Regression] White flash when loading websites from Speed Dial with dark mode enabled (VB-69225)
This one's very cool too. I didn't get white flashes, but there was a very noticeable flash when opening a new tab, and now the opening of new tabs is super-smooth
[Themes][Regression] Very dark colors can cause freezes (VB-76478)
It would be interesting with some explanation or blog post analysis of this really really weird bug and what caused it. It didn't hit me, but I was fascinated how specific theme colors could cause a UI freeze.
I do notice that URL Bar focus on start is still not fixed though... next time?

This one looks much like Frogs on Fire, or maybe like Frozen Weasels...
Sadly, I can't test it even though the changelog is great.
Wondering if drag&drop on Wayland is working with Cr89 now.

[New][macOS] Universal Binaries for native support on Apple M1 machines
Thank you thank you thank you!! Finally!!
I can already feel the difference -
@Ruarí Thank you guys very much for this great improvement and bug-fixing snapshot!
Great work!!!
I can already confirm that most of my issues are solved with this new version.Edit: The following text isn't uptodate. I could check it again and - with the correct timezone-select - it is working.
Only one bug isn't fixed yet you mentioned in your changelogs:
[Calendar] Changing the time zone changes the time (VB-75455)
It still sends a 1 hour difference to web-calendar when creating a new date in browser. -
@luetage: Seems to work if it is part of an extension (loaded in developer mode, such untrusted) ...

These are some of the notable flag changes that come with the latest engine bump to Chrome 89, now present in the latest Vivaldi snapshot.
Added:
- #enable-media-internals - This page is being removed in favour of the dev tools. The flag is here to re-enable the page. more info
- #isolation-by-default - flag warns it will break things. for the privacy paranoid only
- #enable-subresource-redirect - not sure how it works, related to data savings
- #post-quantum-cecpq2 - new "quantum" protocol for HTTPS. Will require server support before the flag does anything useful
- #omnibox-default-typed-navigations-to-https - only for chrome, but is part of a feature request for vivaldi. will they beat vivaldi to implementing it?
- #ntp-chrome-cart-module - shopping right from the chrome start page. thankfully won't affect vivaldi
- #pdf-viewer-document-properties and
- #pdf-viewer-presentation-mode - more options for the new PDF reader. Enable alongside the existing #pdf-viewer-update flag. Enables a metadata view and a full screen view. (see screenshot 1)
- #enable-table-ng - hopefully will make rendering large tables more efficient when it is finished TableNG info
- #enable-accessibility-live-caption -
chrome://settings/accessibility
. DONT TURN IT ON yet, it's not finished and crashes vivaldi. Will eventually enable on-device closed captions for any video. Great for accessibility + privacy - #privacy-sandbox-settings -
chrome://settings/privacySandbox
new settings for chrome's 3PC replacement. Not finished yet. (see screenshot 2) - #show-performance-metrics-hud - for developers only. adds an ugly HUD with info about page rendering (see screenshot 3)
- #chrome-labs - a little popup in the address bar for experiments (like
vivaldi://experiments
but within chrome only). empty right now. doesn't affect vivaldi, it seems. - #pdf-xfa-forms - For PDFs with XFA style forms. Not finished yet.
Changed:
- #read-later - this now works correctly in chrome. doesn't work in vivaldi yet. this is a vivaldi feature request. Will chrome implement it first?
- PWA related flags - for web developers only, various new features and behaviours
- #enable-sign-in-profile-creation - sign in prompt for new profiles. probably only affects chrome as vivaldi has its own profile manager
- flag changes related to chrome's password security, which is only available if you have a google account. doesn't affect vivaldi
Removed:
- #enable-avif - now standard
- #webxr- related flags - not sure what's going on with this API right now.
- #win-use-native-spellchecker - should be on by default now for windows users
- Looks like app debug related flags are also removed, likely as apps have been deprecated. Use
vivaldi://inspect
for now

@QuHno I’m talking about custom Vivaldi mods.
executeScript
used to work flawlessly up to this version, now it doesn’t. I tried to find a hint in the chrome 89 changelog, unsuccessful so far. -
Somehow Vivaldi wont start from the taskbar anymore.
Executing the .exe from the windows explorer still works. -
Loving the new custom menus. Loving the photos.
-
Vivaldi - the browser that doesn't do things by halves
-
New bug in this snapshot:
Web-Panels steel focus from search bar or other input fields
Key: VB-77116 -
32nd
I know a lot of M1 users will be excited -
A lot of fixes, cool ^^
-
@luetage: Nothing should have changed and we use it ourself, so it should still be working. Check if you provide a tabId or not, and if that is correct.
-
[New][Menus] Add support for configurable document menus (VB-76801)
(which eventually includes favicons from searchengines or send links to other profiles)but there are rather other fixes which are also great (for me)!
-
That's a BIG changelog, thank you so much for all the effort and time you put into Vivaldi. I'm so glad this browser exists.
-
Hmm, popup context menus does not align to mouse pointer:

Are there any plans to allow sorting mails and feeds on anything other than time? Since I've been getting dozens of duplicates in my newsfeeds (let's see if this snapshot fixes it since it mentions "de-duplicating") it would be convenient to find and delete all articles with the same title, for example...

@pettern Thank you for taking the time to reply. The id seems to be optional, the API uses the active tab by default and that’s what I need. However, I extracted and implemented the id and it still gives me the same error; tells me that
chrome.tabs.executeScript is not a function
. This usually points to a simple error in the code, like a missing bracket or something, but I haven’t changed anything about it in months and I’ve also been going over it meticulously just now, but can’t find anything wrong with it.
