Btw, what a noob
-
@guigirl didn't read about and gone through all the changelog this time, but if they mess up "desktop grid", the Berkeley Packet Filter will look like a child's toy compared to what is going to happen in their gitlab!
-
@npro Yeah, after my earlier post, i read some other adverse remarks in various reddits too. Gotta say, i'm feeling a bit apprehensive...
-
@npro so.. the real deal* is available now, let's see...
*Plasma 5.25
/edit: hmm I don't remember being able to move the conky window between the desktops in DG (which was the advantage of DG over the others)... is that the case pre-5.25?
-
@npro Yeah, before beddybyes last night, 5.25 was still in Testing, & i see now that it's arrived here [i'm agonna do it in some VMs first, so my real update won't be for some hours yet].

Well, per above, atm i'm still on 5.24.5. Now, this is super-annoying for me. Way back in the dim distant forgotten past, i found a way to exclude both panels AND my 6 Conkies, from my DG... but to my self-anger i've been unable nowadays to recall how i did it, unable to deduce how i did it. & unable to find any working notes for how i did it. I'm so pissed off with myself about this. TL;DR: atm coz i see no Conkies in my DG, any question of dragging them or not is moot.
Btw, per t'other thread, i really do hope you've brushed your teeth & gone to bed, ready for tomorrow's school exams. Also, have you still got some acne cream in your tube, that huge big ginormous zit on your forehead needs help! Pffft, bloody 10 y/o's, what with their attitude n stuff...
-
@guigirl Actually I'm 9 and got permission 7 years ago when I was 2
.

Damnit! So it was what I was remembering of.
-
So, what are you impressions of 5.25 so far?
-
@guigirl Didn't have the chance to discover and play with all the bells and whistles, I was too much occupied with this forum
-
@npro Yeah. Atm, eg, when i invoke DG, i see my 4 VDs in Activity1, with Snappie using most of VD1, TB using all of VD2, & pure untrammelled wallpaper-only on VDs 3 & 4. But there was a time, once, when i did see Conkies & Panels there too. Damn me.
-
@guigirl Damnit!
-
@npro It's all part of my enduring abiding unquenchable evility, apparently.
-
Here are some pics of my first Archie VM which i'm about to update, fyi.
5.24.5 Overview; annoyingly shows my Conkies, which i dislike coz they visually distract from being able to instantly focus on the real windows.
5.24.5 Desktop Grid; this VM is old enough that i'd also already spmehow hiodden Panels from this DG, but i'd been too lazy to also bother hiding the Conkies. Btw, they are NOT draggable here.
-
I am in despair with 5.25. Its newly-rewritten DG / O implementation is simply broken or otherwise extremely badly designed. I am definitely not going to proceed with this update in my real Arch KDE, in fact, if too much time elapses before they fix this but in the meantime other important system [non-plasma] packages arrive, i might even need to spend some weeks living in my SparkyCinnamon 2nd-boot.
This VM is X11-only. After this post i shall find one of my other Archies that also has Wayland, so i can see if the misbehaviours listed below for X11, also happen in W.
- Conkies continue to show in both the new DG & O
- Conkies are draggable for both views [that is stupid]
- Activity 1 Folder-View desktop mode DG: dragging one window from one VD to another [ie, source to target], also drags the Conkies, which thereafter no longer appear on all VDs, but only on that target VD. Fsck me! Even worse, if the target VD already has a window on it, when the dragged-window is dropped, the other window jumps across to the source VD. It is impossible, using DG-only, now to keep multiple windows on one VD. Fsck me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Activity 2 Desktop-View desktop mode DG: dragging one window from one VD to another [ie, source to target], also drags all other windows that were also on the source VD
- now return to Activity 1 & repeat the test... now every window & conky on source VD, drags to target VD, in DG. OMZ, this is simply appallingly bad. Did they do no beta tests?
-
@guigirl To control your conkies, you need to adjust the length of string

Have just
finishedabandoned trying to test in one of my X11+Wayland Archies. In X11, the misbehaviour was as dire as that already described for the other VM.
In Wayland, DG, dragging one window drags all windows on that VD, ie, same as the X11 crap. However, 5.25's Wayland has an extra little gift for the cranky user... constant crashes.
They happen almost anytime, apparently at random, sometimes resulting in an entirely black screen that responds to nothing whatsoever, other times to a black screen but with
& other times the crashes wipe the VDs clean of all open windows, including conkies... & in a particularly perverse bonus, also reset one's desktop Mouse Actions custom menus, geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez.
That's it, i'm done with 5.25.0, am now not gonna touch it at all, & instead wait for 5.25.1 in presumably a week's time. Gotta say, releases like this do nothing to enhance the KDE Devs' reputations for delivering buggy software. Gnomers will make merry hell with this shyte. Anyway, gotta Pop Off now.

Bug 455350
Regression in 5.25: present windows can't be deactivated for desktop grid
Status: CONFIRMEDit is not possible to change a single window to another virtual desktop, it is only possible to move them all, although when you pass the mouse over one a blue border appears, but when you drag they all move
-
@guigirl yes, I noticed them too. Looks like I'll be taking some time off here and spend it on their bugtracker and forums.

Gnomers
They do have their own bugs as well, for example one of their worst lately
https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/583340 . They appear to be less just because their shell is spartian, but they should be analog.
