Every couple of months, over a few years now, i invest=waste several hours unsuccessfully trying to research how to modify my real Arch Plasma's Dolphin context-menu
Run in Konsole
command, so that it resembles how some of my Archie Plasma VMs do it [which i like better]. Today i've just finished the latest round of utterly wasted hours, & as usual after these failures, i feel bloody cranky. I mean, i really do love Plasma, but arcane hidden shyte like this gives me the screaming irrits.My real Arch Plasma's Dolphin context-menu [= stupid & not how i want it]:
One of my better VMs [EndeavourOS, in this case, but i have others too... & this is my Holy Grail]:
I've read https://develop.kde.org/docs/extend/dolphin/service-menus/, checked both
/usr/share/kio/servicemenus/konsolerun.desktop
[=does exist] &/.local/share/kio/servicemenus/konsolerun.desktop
[=does NOT exist]. I've diffed my real [shit] version against the VM's version & confirmed they are identical... yet as my pics show, somehow the EOS one appears in the contextmenu root path [marvellous!] whilst my real one idiotically only appears in a submenu [shit shit crap].Gaaaaaaaaaaah!

@guigirl I'm not sure I get it, it's qemu that downloads stuff in a very slow manner?
-
@guigirl Mine looks fine
I never had such a problem so this needs investigation...
On the other hand if you have already checked everything, have you thought about the possibility of a Microsoft curse possessing your settings with a HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\UNCLE_SAM registrykey? Some local exorcist available in your area?P.S. Shamans could also do it last time I heard, but... I can totally understand if you have doubts (or nervousness) about it.

@npro I was being deliberately cryptic, to engender a slight element of mystery & intrigue in this otherwise ascetic thread. All i was obliquely indicating, is that it's the end of my ISP billing month, ie, the end of my data month before my new month begins, ipso facto it's when i update all my VMs to use up some of my residual data allowance before i lose it. As for "slow", that's not qemu's fault, that's my peak speed available from the super-shit "broadband" that the federal fascists we just recently threw outta office, dumped onto Straya.
So much for "a picture is worth a thousand words"... bunkum.

Sigh. How you doo dat special majique? Tell me your Special Secret!
@npro said in Arching Vivaldifarians.:

Yeah, sure... just like i've been trying to do for years, on & off. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
@npro said in Arching Vivaldifarians.:

Well, clearly there's some file or setting, somewhere, that i do not know about, which logically must be causing this annoyance... but i simply dunno how to solve this rotten mystery. I know it's silly & unreasonable of me, but every time i wish to execute that context command, & thus have to invoke that stupid second submenu, i get really mad. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
@npro said in Arching Vivaldifarians.:

Heehee, nice one. Y'know, IF this was happening on my ol' Dell Lappy, i'd reckon you could be spot on, coz once upon a time in the dim dark past, that was a win7 beastie. But no, all this shyte is happening on my Tower, which i bought new in 2015 specifically with NO installed OS, so that i could dedicate it to Linux. Mind you, you've got me thinking now... there were times in years gone by, before i also converted Lappy to Nix, that i did have Lappy & Tower in the same room whilst i slept at the other end of my house. Goodness, who knows what evil plans Lappy might have perpetrated onto poor innocent defenceless little Tower!

local exorcist
This is looking more & more urgent. All i need to somehow overcome, is my abiding overwhelming undaunted strident
atheism!
Sod it, Tower can damn well take care of herself!

@guigirl Uh ohhhhhhhhhh, has my February anxiety come to fruition?
The new "present windows" effect SUCKS. I want the old behaviour.
-
Btw, what a noob
-
@guigirl didn't read about and gone through all the changelog this time, but if they mess up "desktop grid", the Berkeley Packet Filter will look like a child's toy compared to what is going to happen in their gitlab!
-
@npro Yeah, after my earlier post, i read some other adverse remarks in various reddits too. Gotta say, i'm feeling a bit apprehensive...
-
@npro so.. the real deal* is available now, let's see...
*Plasma 5.25
/edit: hmm I don't remember being able to move the conky window between the desktops in DG (which was the advantage of DG over the others)... is that the case pre-5.25?
-
@npro Yeah, before beddybyes last night, 5.25 was still in Testing, & i see now that it's arrived here [i'm agonna do it in some VMs first, so my real update won't be for some hours yet].

Well, per above, atm i'm still on 5.24.5. Now, this is super-annoying for me. Way back in the dim distant forgotten past, i found a way to exclude both panels AND my 6 Conkies, from my DG... but to my self-anger i've been unable nowadays to recall how i did it, unable to deduce how i did it. & unable to find any working notes for how i did it. I'm so pissed off with myself about this. TL;DR: atm coz i see no Conkies in my DG, any question of dragging them or not is moot.
Btw, per t'other thread, i really do hope you've brushed your teeth & gone to bed, ready for tomorrow's school exams. Also, have you still got some acne cream in your tube, that huge big ginormous zit on your forehead needs help! Pffft, bloody 10 y/o's, what with their attitude n stuff...
-
@guigirl Actually I'm 9 and got permission 7 years ago when I was 2
.

Damnit! So it was what I was remembering of.
-
So, what are you impressions of 5.25 so far?
-
@guigirl Didn't have the chance to discover and play with all the bells and whistles, I was too much occupied with this forum
-
@npro Yeah. Atm, eg, when i invoke DG, i see my 4 VDs in Activity1, with Snappie using most of VD1, TB using all of VD2, & pure untrammelled wallpaper-only on VDs 3 & 4. But there was a time, once, when i did see Conkies & Panels there too. Damn me.
-
@guigirl Damnit!
-
@npro It's all part of my enduring abiding unquenchable evility, apparently.
-
Here are some pics of my first Archie VM which i'm about to update, fyi.
5.24.5 Overview; annoyingly shows my Conkies, which i dislike coz they visually distract from being able to instantly focus on the real windows.
5.24.5 Desktop Grid; this VM is old enough that i'd also already spmehow hiodden Panels from this DG, but i'd been too lazy to also bother hiding the Conkies. Btw, they are NOT draggable here.
-
I am in despair with 5.25. Its newly-rewritten DG / O implementation is simply broken or otherwise extremely badly designed. I am definitely not going to proceed with this update in my real Arch KDE, in fact, if too much time elapses before they fix this but in the meantime other important system [non-plasma] packages arrive, i might even need to spend some weeks living in my SparkyCinnamon 2nd-boot.
This VM is X11-only. After this post i shall find one of my other Archies that also has Wayland, so i can see if the misbehaviours listed below for X11, also happen in W.
- Conkies continue to show in both the new DG & O
- Conkies are draggable for both views [that is stupid]
- Activity 1 Folder-View desktop mode DG: dragging one window from one VD to another [ie, source to target], also drags the Conkies, which thereafter no longer appear on all VDs, but only on that target VD. Fsck me! Even worse, if the target VD already has a window on it, when the dragged-window is dropped, the other window jumps across to the source VD. It is impossible, using DG-only, now to keep multiple windows on one VD. Fsck me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Activity 2 Desktop-View desktop mode DG: dragging one window from one VD to another [ie, source to target], also drags all other windows that were also on the source VD
- now return to Activity 1 & repeat the test... now every window & conky on source VD, drags to target VD, in DG. OMZ, this is simply appallingly bad. Did they do no beta tests?
