Solved Problem configuring Vivaldi
-
Hi all,
I am trying to configure Vivaldi, running on Linux Mint and I have met a strange problem.
System Information --
Computer -- Dell desktop machine, 8Gb Memory, > 150 Gb free disk space. OpSys -- 64-bit Linux Mint, ver 18.3
Vivaldi -- 3.5.2115.81 (Stable channel) (64-bit)I wish to install some extensions. From the Menu, I select Tools >> Extensions and from there, go to the Chrome Web Store. When I search for an extension (say, PIA (for VPN) or uBlock Origin), I can see the extension listed but, when I click on the extension itself, the page is displayed correctly but there is no buttons or other options to download and install.
I obviously thought that I may be seeing an error on the selected web site, so to test this matter further, I attempted to install extensions from inside Firefox. In both the examples cited, the necessary download buttons were displayed so that download and installation proceeded correctly. This is thus a strong indication that the problem is due to Vivaldi itself in some way.
Please note that Tracking and Ad Blocking were disabled in Settings >> Privacy.
Can anyone throw any light on this strange problem ?
Best regards to all,

Hi all,
I am very embarrassed to report that I have found the cause of the apparent malfunction to be due to me. I have been working on configuration of this computer over several days and one part of this is to set up firejail, so that the machine can run sandboxed. Seemingly, I had an instance of Vivaldi still running in this mode whilst I used another incarnation when I tried to collect extensions. I apologise profoundly for my stupid error and can only hope I have not caused too much inconvenience to other users.
I discovered my error yesterday evening but I have been unable to post from Vivaldi, even though Blockers and my VPN are disabled.. I can log on to this forum and see the thread but at about this time, your system reports that connection has been lost. When I log out, the Forum reports that I cannot be validated. I have tried to reach the forum several times this morning, without success. I am now using Firefox and this is working perfectly. I cannot offer any explanation since yesterday, I could post from Vivaldi , even though I was in the error condition reported above.
Best regards to all,

Settings → Privacy → enable
crypto token& web store. -
@potmeklecbohdan Only
Web Store
is needed to install extensions from CWS. -
@hlehyaric Oops, thanks for the correction. I didn’t bother trying it now & earlier today I’ve seen Lilo mentioning both.

@potmeklecbohdan To merely download extensions, enable
Web Store
is enough. You may needCrypto Token
to sign in. -
Hi all,
My thanks to those who have replied to my question. Unfortunately, none of the suggestions work. I have enabled Web Store and Crypto Token , both separately and combined. In every case, I can see the chosen page (say, HTTPS Everywhere) but there are no controls to use to download and install.
I have been using Vivaldi for several years and, of course, having configured a setup, one does not then keep re-configuring this. So, I have never before encountered any problems installing Extensions nor have I ever done anything with the Web Store and Crypto Tokens settings. I have a nasty feeling, this problem may be tied up with the version of Linux Mint that I am running (now about 4 yrs old) but I'll wait to see if there are any more ideas before I trash my computer and start all over again.

That's not the problem!
I'm on Mint 18.3 KDE andNote: I have both Web Store and Crypto activated.
Are you already using any extensions?

@hatrack Another user had the same issue awhile ago here, Can't install extension from Chrome Web Store. No "Add to Chrome" button, and the issue was an extension as @TbGbe suggested, both in this thread and the other.
If an extension is the issue and you manage to narrow it down, let us all know here. It is useful to know what extension is the culprit.

@hatrack Have you restarted Vivaldi?
