Introducing Vivaldi Mail in Technical Preview
-
@Steffie Well, don't count on it, because you are not alone. Some others are having a "no response to the Send button" as well. Hmmm.
-
@Ayespy See! SEE!! It's not just any ordinary level of klutzness i possess. My tentacles are global.
-
@Steffie I suppose I can't argue with that...
-
@Ayespy Yep, don't get on my wrong side, otherwise i'll wreck yours too. Muhahahaha.
-
@Steffie You may have done so already - not only in M3 - and in retrograde as well. GMail has suddenly begun to reject any attempt to sign in to my 3rd (but only my third) GMail account by an M2 client on any machine anywhere, no matter what account settings I employ. You see, M2 is "insecure." Never mind that it works fine for my other two accounts... Your fault entirely, I'm sure.
-
@Ayespy Well, i did warn you...
-
@Steffie I have no defense.
-
Ugh, am now provisionally an Unhappy Camper... fear i have to take the @luetage nuclear option of building a brand new profile. Bwaaaaaaaaaah! Pls see these comparative pics.
The first two are from my real on-SSD V-SS with its years-old profiles... this one refuses to Send, with either Default or Test profile... and both have severely curtailed Mail panel contents.
Spoiler
.
This one is from my virginal V-SS in my EndeavourOS VM. It Sends AND Receives, & just look at its more fulsome Mail panel.
Spoiler
I am truly not looking forward to doing another rebuild coz it consumes many hours once all the finessing is over including regenerating all the speeddials. Grumble, moan...
I've not yet tried this, but might it be worth first trying deleting ALL files/directories in my real profiles called Mail, Calendar, Contacts, & anything else advised by Peeps Who Know Stuff?
-
Wow, that is HUUUUUUGE news !!! All the three services that I need !
-
@Steffie The last update was massive. Not only did Iย notice issues with the panel, but also certain problems with quickcommands and searches. It all went away with the reset. At some point profiles become too old to cope. And yeah, the more modifications you have in your install, the more painful it becomes to start all over. I wish Sync would take care of everything. In case of speed dials we canโt expect it to, would be too much data for the servers, just like notes attachments.
-
Hoooraaaay! Hmm,no vivaldi://experiments/ on Android? Guess I'll actually have to get up and use my desktop.
-
@Steffie Well, I have a kind of chronic peeve that all mail data and settings are not in a single folder - and one of the places it is, is not named "mail" nor connected to mail in any visible manner, and I keep forgetting what its name is. My solution for broken mail has habitually become nuking my entire profile. Luckily, I don't have a ton of custom settings, so it's not that great a hardship for me.
-
@luetage Ta. With sincere sincerity that is sincerely sincere, i am glad to hear that your new profile is now all good. So then, it seems that now i have a new, unplanned Tomorrow Job ahead, drats.
If that's the case, i now feel there's no reason not to try that desperate crazy idea i asked about above, re deleting those specific files/directories. I mean, what's the worst that could happen? -- i have to rebuild my profile.
Sigh.
Oh, just saw your post Bruce -- ta. Yep my idea is bound to fail, but... nothing to lose now.
-
@Steffie Well, if you're going about that, then I THINK the mystery folder is the one within Default, called "Storage." It knows what your accounts are, and how your mail is indexed. If you are going about deleting folders, FIRST go into mail settings and delete your mail account(s), then go ahead and do your worst.
-
and both have severely curtailed Mail panel contents.
Mine is the same

I'll wait to see how your tinkering goes
My popcorn and coffee is on the way.
Edit: Alternative
@jon said in Address bar and tab fixes, better DRM support, plus the start of the Mail, Calendar and RSS Technical Previews โ Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2115.4:We will work on a fix to this as there are quite a few profiles, it seems, that have this problem. I expect we will have a fix in the next few days.
Extra coffee on order!
-
@jon I think if you take the direction of feed sync it should be actual RSS aggregator in the cloud with client built in in Vivaldi so you don't have to be online to grab news, not all sources are only valid for a few minutes or days, some stay relevant even for years
I know there are services that do that but none of them has comfortable desktop client (that Vivaldi hopefully will have soon) nor API to build own one -
@TbGbe Teehee, very droll, as per usual,
That's a bummer that you have the same hassle. Bwaaaah.
Yes i do remember that @jon comment, & though i chose not to bother going back & re-editing my recent post, since then i kinda sorta decided to chicken out & actually do nothing more on this issue for now, my logic being:
- Exactly what you referenced - Jon+Co might well come up with some restorative new cunning magic soonish.
- I've run out of steam with all the excitement of the past day, & so am now just mindlessly chilling out watching a backlog of Linux YouTubes i'd queued up 24 hrs before M3 arrived.
- As very interested as i was to explore M3 after the years of build-up, until & unless we do get the means to safely & effectively import all our historical data, i cannot embrace actually migrating from Thunderbird to V for mail, calendar, contacts, tasks.
- My virginal test in my VM proved the concept to me, ergo [considering my preceding point] the false sense of "rush" i unwittingly placed on myself earlier to solve this in my real V, has rather dissipated.
None of that eliminates my sense of awe at what The V Team are achieving here, & my ongoing interest in boarding the new carriages of this train... but tbh over the years i have rebuilt my profile so many times, & these days my V is so substantially Non-Vanilla due to many cool tricks i've learned from the clever folk here, that the idea of rushing to another rebuild now [which might be unnecessary if some magic were to happen along] just gives me the screaming heebie jeebies..

Actually, I cannot remember the last time I had to rebuild my profile!
I have got so used to Vivaldi "just working" for me :face_savouring_delicious_food:For historical reasons, my email is now all gmail (apart from Vivaldi.net).
I do have a defunct Hotmail account (from when it WAS still Hotmail), which I was going to "play" with if M3 "just worked".So I guess Google sorting out Authorisation will be my Xmas present

Can we assume that Feeds will sync through Vivaldi.net as well? Not just the feeds, but whether an item is read or not, etc?
This is something I've been saying on these forums since the beginning!
My experience with Opera was that the most annoying thing about newsfeeds was constantly sifting through the same articles at home which you'd already seen at work and vice versa!
I really feel that this information needs to be synchronised and I hope that was a consideration during the creation of this mail client...

Thanks for the e-mail client. It looks great. But I wonder if it's good that I only get the column with recieved flags filters and so on when I click on the side panel? I do'nt get it in cobination with the correspondents and the specific mail in one window.
