Short links which points to latest stable/snapshot
-
I was thinking about having two short link (eg:
vivaldi.com/stable
andvivaldi.com/snapshot
which points to latest download-able vivaldi versions. Could make troubleshooting easier
Maybe even two additional shorter forms,
vvld.com/stab
ovvld.com/snap
for people which don't block redirects. -
No, no, no! Keep everything on the official site,
vivaldi.com
. No redirection from other (only possibly V) sites. -
@potmeklecbohdan Seems legit. I'll edit the request.

In general it's a good idea, and would allow us to link directly to the latest build, and also for some automation even on Windows
But not a big fan of URL shorteners. And how would you handle different hardware (x64/x86) and Linux distro builds?
I think a better alternative would be like:
https://downloads.vivaldi.com/stable/i386-win/latest
https://downloads.vivaldi.com/stable/amd64-deb/latest
https://downloads.vivaldi.com/snapshot/macos/latest
And so on... From a web server perspective these are just symlinks to the different builds. But it would of course add another layer of complexity on release, in case the links break or have not been updated correctly.

Promote Ruari's script.

@Pathduck Well, the first form is not even more a short url, just two more pages on vivaldi.com which could be used or not. They simply redirect to the page which allow to choose the correct package for the OS.
The longest form are also fine, but I meant the shortest to avoid fetching the latest vivaldi url strings while trying to help people. Direct downloads are another request, which I had already upvoted.
I really hope a linux user know how to pick a deb/rpm package. Otherwise is a big problem and I have to suggest switching windows (which I tend not to do).
