@catweazle Wow, at first that looks really bad (although for me it's actually the 2nd result, not 1st). But after clicking through the link and reading it, and reading about Marginalia, it doesn't bother me at all that this is a top result.

First, that article is laments that most browser engines don't follow the FTP spec, and Vivaldi isn't even mentioned until about 80% of the way to the bottom.

Second, Marginalia says:

This is a search engine, designed to help you find what you didn't even know you were looking for... If you are looking for fact, this is almost certainly the wrong tool. If you are looking for serendipity, you're on the right track. When was the last time you just stumbled onto something, by the way?...
The purpose of the tool is primarily to help you find and navigate the strange parts of the internet....
You'll surely find uncomfortable ideas too, but I'm sure you'll survive and find the experience worthwhile, because for every turd you step in, there are also plenty of brilliant and interesting gems to find that for one reason or another didn't live up to the standards of the big search engines.

So in conclusion, it worked! I definitely never knew or thought about browsers respecting basic parts of the FTP spec, and I'm glad Marginalia helped me learn something new today!

Another one, Qdex (nice homepage) but currently few results in searching. Still very new, that's why in beta, still no image search. It is private and uses the Google engine

You can add it as searchengine, but it don't make sense, because it use several searchbars and filters, which you select from the main page. Account needed for all info (free)

@pathduck, where did you get that Wolfram|Alpha suggestion URL? Does it work for you in the current Vivaldi, or has it worked in the past?

I can tell it's returning suggestions at e.g. https://www.wolframalpha.com/n/v1/api/autocomplete?i=abraham, but Vivaldi isn't actually showing those suggestions for me when I type in the address bar (it is showing me suggestions for my other search engines where I've configured a search URL).

I tend to change the appearance from time to time, but in general I always use a dark theme as I find it more pleasing to my eyes.

I don't use the Speed Dial, because I prefer to have the links in folders in the bookmarks bar, because this allows me to access the sites directly, without first having to open a new tab with the links.

As home page / new tab I use an empty Speed Dial page, where I have configured to use the same Wallpaper as my Desktop.

Nice wallpapers I find most in Pixabay, there are more than 1 millon images in HD free with Public Domain license

@stardepp , the images in Pixabay are all free downloadable, but if you want higher resolutions than your screen and don't like to pass a reCaptcha before download, than you need an account (it's free, and the normal nick, mail and password).
It's one of the best webs with really free images for all uses, include comercial.

Added. This search engine has many settings, I like that. This search engine has .org ending. What does it mean?

@stardepp search.disroot.org is a SearX instance as searx.bar, but a little bit customized.

@stardepp , otro, Piped, a YT front-end which don't use the googlevideoAPI crap like others, because of this without restrictions, country or age blocks. OpenSource
