The "session only" privacy setting should also be available for "Closed Tab" and "Download History"
-
Hi folks,
It's two different -although slightly related- topics that are discussed here from time to time.
Regarding the "clear the download history at session exit" one, the last thread I could find is old enough (2018) that the forum suggested me to open a new thread instead of digging up the old one (Re: Option to Clear Download History on Exit ). Hence this new request.
As for the closed tabs one, it seems that this weird behavior is known (Re: Clear 'Closed Tabs' after exit ), and has been flagged as a bug. Which is logical, I guess, because quite frankly it doesn't make any sense for Vivaldi to clear history each session but to leave the "last closed tabs" untouched, and ready to be re-opened at will in the next session. So this alone probably shouldn't be a feature request since it's merely a known bug, but I still thought it wouldn't hurt to bundle it with the "Clear the download history when closing the session" request.
I think both of these request make sense, considering they all gravitate toward the same end goal that is privacy, and that it would prove to be useful options.
Thanks

@durango I think: That this browser can't clear the history, can't clear the download list, can't clear the closed tabs
on EXIT is ridiculous! I though this browser would be about privacy.... -
@durango This is similar to Option to Clear Everything on Exit.
@seasonsoflove There is an easy way to do this manually with Delete Browser Data. Automatic is obviously better, but there is a limit to what can be done by the Vivaldi Team. I assume that preserving closed tabs is a safety feature, because many users complain about losing their tabs on clicking the X button.
With 4,328 feature requests, and a small team, those needed by few users or difficult to implement may have to wait for a long time. Wherever you see that a feature is tagged as In Progress, it may get done this year rather than next.

@pesala I believe this feature is essential and it would furtherly set vivaldi appart from others. I have one browser who does this with the help of an addon. It is called google chrome. It is the only browser that works for me and I wish there was an alternative! But something is always missing... Of all alternatives, I like vivaldi the most though.

@seasonsoflove You can install Chrome extensions in Vivaldi too, e.g. Clean All, but I don't know if that is any easier than delete browsing data.
-
@pesala O yeah! I noticed that too and installed the same addon like in chrome, clears the history well but leaves the list of closed tabs untouched...
