reduce minimum width of panels
-
all panels can have a varying width but the minimum is too wide [imo] - the minimum can be reduced by a css change or some js but neither are good as they are not permanent and a mouse click in the wrong place makes the panel open to the minimum default width
i assume that minimum width is hard coded somewhere - can whatever its set to be reduced to [say] 80 or 100px - as far as i can see it will make no difference to the general appearance just give more flexibility to the panels for those who like a narrow bookmarks bar and maximum page area
thanks

@adacom Hi, Thanks for your feature request.
This looks like a duplicate of Remove restrictions on web panel width Please vote for that instead, thank you.

reinstated as a request by @LonM - different to one mentioned above
-
is there any point to this place or is it just a dead zone - the amount of take up seems nil with hardly any posts marked by staff in any way
one of the points made by the team is the browser is configurable by the user - this request is for for that configuration to be in the users hands - that is why i posted this request - the min setting now is wrong imo - its just a number i am guessing embetted in the code - why cannot it be changed - maybe i am wrong and its a big ask - is f so say so
changing it by JS is possible but it does not stick and can revert to the embedded min dimension for no reason

Really? There's like 100 posts a day...?! Or did you post in the wrong forum

It is. From a high level through UI settings which most users should be able to figure out and would be happy with the customisation options. To low level JS/CSS mods which only those who understand it would bother, but are able to make some quite considerable changes if desired.
No one ever implied that every tiny element is possible to be changed, especially not simply or without possible side effects depending on what code is modified.
Just because you can't find the setting for some esoteric option that isn't something that 99% of users may never ask for doesn't denigrate that philosophy.
for no reason
There is a reason, you just don't know what it is yet. It could be some setting is inherited from another UI element which causes the mod to revert back to default. Or something else.

@adacom Although the linked request specifically mentions the maximum width, the title, Remove restrictions on web panel width, also covers restrictions on the minimum width. I use other programs with side panels (Serif PagePlus/WebPlus/DrawPlus) that allow them to be resized to zero.
-
The minimum panel width has increased to 226px from it's previous lower minimum. Not only has this been ignored but it has suffered a regression.
-
@rnalsation The default panel width in Vivaldi 2.11 was just 186 pixels.
-
whatever it is its too wide - there should be no minimum or restriction to what a user wants to set it to - whatever is controlling the minimum width should be removed
a feature of Vivaldi is its customisation - this setting restricts that
-
@rnalsation yeah, it's so ugly and backwards. my bookmark names barely take half of that space, the other area is just plain white. anyone got a JS/CSS fix for that?

https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/46159/bookmarks-side-bar-2-things-i-cannot-solve
have a look in here - i run these mods - they work but have problems - read the thread and it will be clear
i would add i do many other thinga in that area so the code i linled to may not work fully but is a start
-
I totally agree. Not only I cannot shrink the panel less, it keeps resetting its width when restarting the browser.

@nicklaich
Hi, did you set "Separate Width" in context menu of panel header? It store the width setting of a panel.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin Hey, thanks for the tip! At least it keeps width now.
-

@swashbuckler If you try it, tell me if it solves the problem you have.
-
@code3 it works great.
-
+1 to reduse min width of side panels, at least for bookmark side panel.
Please, devs! -
