Enable tab groups
-
Vivaldi already enabled tab grid by default, now they should enable the tab group support too. As seen in Chrome's server-side update.
The flag for it is
chrome://flags/#enable-tab-groups
and it now works in Vivaldi beta! The suggestion is to make it supported and enabled by default.Edit: the most likely reason this is disabled right now is that tab groups are incompatible with Chrome Duet and Vivaldi's bottom toolbar builds upon the latter.
Edit 2: tab groups are now supported with Duet in Chromium!
Edit 3: now works in beta!

@madiso It would be a shame for chrome to overtake vivaldi in terms of features. I would like to see this.
-
@madiso I think the way to do this in Vivaldi Mobile would be to present the tab group as a folder in the tab view. Make the screenshot look like a folder and show four pages in small thumbnails, similar to how multiple pages in a speed dial category is is presented. Then you would select the tab group and see all pages in there, and be given the capability to change the tab group among the other available options when you long-press on a tab.
-
@hebgbs That is basically how they look already.

@madiso
Hi, wich version of Chrome is this, does not work for me with 77.0.3865.92.
Does not work in Vivaldi snapshot either but does not crash for me.Xiaomi Mi 9T
MIUI 10 (Android 9)
Vivaldi 2.7.1624.207 SnapshotCheers, mib

@mib2berlin The blog post is about a server-side update so it may not be live for all just yet. Either way the flag works on v76 and up at least, make sure you restart the browser twice.
-
@madiso
Ah, restart again does it, very nice.Thanks, mib

Enabling groups causes the browser to crash non-stop on my LG-H871, even after restarting, then exiting completely. I can wait until the issues with it are ironed out, would love to see groups synced between sessions, and per-instance if that's a thing which is remotely possible; but only for open instances on the desktop, no option to make new instances on desktop or it may become invasive for desktop users in a multi-user environment on the same system user account to just see a new desktop instance open up.

@hebgbs
Hi, as it not work in Vivaldi anyway I disable it.
Vote for the request if you like it, only 3 up votes in 3 days.Cheers, mib

This will be possible soon.

As detailed in this post, this is now possible to use in beta!
-
As the user ''bonetone'' has shown it in this topic, I strongly support that this feature should be added as a default option to android.

This is awesome. Rename them to tab stacks and find a way to display them in the tab bar while keeping them accessible and that's the way to go!
Tab stacks are the main reason I chose Vivaldi.For some reason, enabling the flag doesn't work anymore in Snapshot 3.1.1893.3. At least for me. I'm wondering for how long it has been broken, since I haven't had a chance to try tab grouping in prior versions. Well, currently unsupported features cannot be fixed by the devs, which is unfortunate for me.
I miss the stacking and auto stacking features from the desktop version. 20 to 30 tabs are messy even on a 10 inch screen, and given that the tab switcher cannot display more than 6 tabs at once no matter how big your screen is, so it is basically useless for me.
-
@madiso Now grouping works great in tab overview, but what's needed is to make tabbar support it too! Because currently it considers grouped tabs as separate.
-
@emvaized not if you turn off the tab bar on settings, and enable the one in flags.
-
One of the best features ever! to sort tabs by topic (research, work, shopping etc.).
Thanks for posting the URL command line
chrome://flags/#enable-tab-groupsBtw.: is there also an option to enable a Tab Group window bar like on Google Chrome for Android?
There are little circles at the bottom, which represent to open windows in the current tab group, so you can quickly switch between them or close them, which is quite comfortable -

There's now an option in the Vivaldi settings to enable and disable Tab Stacks.
