Address bar performance improvements – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1525.4
-
@Vividal it was introduced in the previous snapshot
https://vivaldi.com/blog/snapshots/adjust-the-speed-dial-size-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-1511-4/
but you're right, it wasn't mentioned explicitly in the new features, but me and other commented about it in the comments the same day, you must have missed them -
@Vividal said in Address bar performance improvements – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1525.4:
@luetage: Hmm, idk. I read the changelogs and while it could be that i overlooked it, I've seen numerous people in the past mention why some things don't get mentioned.
I know for sure that it was mentioned. By coincidence I wanted to move some things around yesterday... wondered why I couldn't and then thought "ah yes! I set speed dial to be locked back when they added that feature..."
Edit: @iAN CooG - my feeling is it's older than that - a few weeks at least - and was in the changelog of whichever snapshot it was.

See https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/36428/anyone-having-problems-with-whatsapp-after-last-snapshot
The fix with the User Agent Switcher didn't work with me!
-
@gwen-dragon: Played around a little bit on win 7.
You are right, seems like a problem in combination with my addblocker.
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adblock-plus-free-ad-bloc/cfhdojbkjhnklbpkdaibdccddilifddbPlease give it a try.
Just install and allow in incognito-mode. -
@Vividal I know I read about it somewhere in the past… or I wouldn't know in the first place. Can't point my finger on it though. It never hurts to take a look at the specific settings, if you want to accomplish something. And if you're still not sure, you can always ask about it, as you've done. Searching all existing changelogs for a feature is too time consuming – and I'd take a wild bet that the majority of Vivaldi users never reads all of these in detail anyway.

Bug: Flash permission popup shows up before the destination site loaded.
Confirmed here, too.

@gwen-dragon: Did send another crash-report and moved my directory to reroduce the problem from a fresh install on Windows 7.
So here we go:- Fresh install of Vivaldi, first start.
- Install extention https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adblock-plus-free-ad-bloc/cfhdojbkjhnklbpkdaibdccddilifddb
- Allow Incognito for this extention
- Open the development tools
- Undock the debugger window - it needs to be floating
- Close all instances
- Start vivaldi directly to private mode ( --incognito)
- Go to any website
- Rightclick -> Inspect
----> Crash
-
@gwen-dragon: Very strange.
Currentyl I've got no Windows 10 on hand to test it.
But i've got two linux notebooks laying around.- Ubuntu 18.04.2 with XFCE -> Segfault (Same testcase)
- Ubuntu 18.04.2 with KDE; fresh Install -> No Problem.
Maybe i should try to completely purge the install.
-
@xyzzy I shall do exactly that. Next time it happens I will create a "Vivaldi Bookmark" folder where they won't bother me. Like you I like to support V any possible way I can. Funny it only happens once in a proverbial blue moon.
-
@gwen-dragon: Did a full purge and reinstall on my XFCE machine.
The crash was gone - until i was finished configuring.
I've attached the fresh install directory to the bugreport.Just a slightly change in the Testcase:
- Open the first and only bookmark.
- Open and close the development tools
- Reopen the tools a second time
-> Crash
-
@Para-Noid Once, Vivaldi added its default bookmark tree to the bottom of my bookmarks when I updated to a new build. In my case, I likely did something (like going back to an internal build from a few days ago) that put my profile (and bookmarks database) into a weird state. I wasn't able to replicate the problem and it never happened again. However, if you can think of anything that you might have done or anything about your Vivaldi installation that changed that might have affected your bookmarks in any way (before updating to the latest Snapshot), please share, and the devs can look into it further and (hopefully) prevent this glitch from happening again.

Hi @LonM. FYI, further to my 14-days-ago https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/286102 post, today's the first subsequent time i've needed to work with the session i'd created back then... but now of course being in 2.5.1525.4. Sadly the identical misbehaviour continues... most but not all of the reinstated tabs now in Window2 erroneously have become pinned again. I've now tediously re-unpinned each of them, so i expect in a few hours when i'm ready to close W2 they'll not rematerialise back in W1.
Have you also been experiencing this bug still in the current SS? Btw pls could you share the Bug# with me?
3 hours later... once i was finally ready to close W2, but before actually doing so, i saved a new session from it [as per above, i'd previously unpinned all W2 tabs]. Then [still with W1 & W2 open], from W2 i opened new W3 for that latest session. It was perfect, no pinned tabs. Hence closing W3 did not transfer any tabs into W2 or W1. Then i closed W2, & again W1 stayed untouched. Hence, now i'm quite puzzled re if this bug is actually already fixed, or not...
["my brain hurts, my br-ain hurts!
No, open the door & come in.
Oh, Sorry."]. -
@Steffie Hi, I haven't had any issues recently with tabs becoming erroneously pinned (in the manner you described) in the recent snapshot.
But my earlier reported bug, where some tabs become pinned on saving a session, still occurs. For reference, mine was VB-46973.
-
@stardepp: this was why i uninstalled and went back to stable had to close the browser to get extension windows to show on clicking then it broke again in 2 minutes, is this fixed ?
-
@chipy: same here tried user string switcher no help
-
@xyzzy Will do. But it's more of an irritant than anything else. And it really isn't that important to me. It has happened in the past on occasion but not very often. If and when it happens again I will inform the greater community and file a bug report. I have my doubts the devs will be able to recreate the snafu. As far as changing my setup not since my last install whenever that was. I have no recollection when that was. I keep using the in-program update feature aka the gui.
-
@Steffie W1...W2...W3 Then W2...W1...W2...W1...W3
And you said your brain hurts?
-
@christiehmalry Since I returned to Vivaldi 2.4 Stable, I have no more problems, neither block the expansion icons in the address bar, nor appears on Facebook the 'more posts' button.
-
@xyzzy It happened again. This time all I did was close V. Then opened Vivaldi again over an hour later.
As "Alice in Wonderland" said so eloquently...curiouser and curiouser.Reported bug. VB-52492
edit: fixed typo
