To whom did you introduce Vivaldi today?
-
@jon Right, depending on the user we are dealing with, we must emphasize the functions that can improve the navigation experience.
Even being too insistent is not productive, better to explain them on what can be useful and let them try, if they can understand the potential, certainly will become regular users of Vivaldi, this is the strategy that i usually use.
With more experienced users the thing is already more difficult because if they are used to working in a certain way not always Vivaldi is able to satisfy them, for example the Bookmark Bar more usable, in another forum that I follow has always been one of the most popular requests, now with version 2.4 this lack has been almost filled and some users are trying Vivaldi again.Another thing that i often meet is "another clone of Chrome", unfortunately this is a fairly common thought, users stop at what's underneath without assessing the actual potential and with the fear that their data is at risk without even informing themselves about the attention to privacy that the Vivaldi Team cares about.
However, i am confident, when the mobile version will also be presented many other users may start to be part of this community, since they are waiting for this to switch to Vivaldi. -
@i_ri , yes it is still the case that people do not know the difference between a browser and a search engine, but there continues to be a lot of people that know the difference and could make use of a browser that adapts more to their needs.
Cheers,
Jon. -
Unsure if use "you can even put the nyan cat on the bars, if you're in these kind of things".
About that, memes on vivaldi customizations, would be a great advertising
Especially true on Facebook. "One" share a nice meme picture from a browser social media and more users know about it -
@Folgore101 , yes the lack of better contextual menus in the bookmarks bar was something that was clearly needed and we have improved on that. That being said there is clearly a lot of bookmarking features in Vivaldi not found in any other browser. The speed dials, as implemented, are rather unique and the bookmarks manager has more features than most. This means that many people will start by looking at what they used to do, while Vivaldi may at times offer different and even better solutions to the problem.
I understand those that complain that we are using Chromium. I wish we had our own code base. That is just not an option. However, clearly Vivaldi has a lot of features that no other browser has and we are even seeing some of these features being copied by other browsers, which means we have to be doing something right.
Cheers,
Jon. -
Vivaldi is certainly on the right track and this is also very evident looking for articles about Browers on the internet.
Although Vivaldi, by number of users, is still a marginal Brower, in many articles is mentioned in conjunction with the very established (Chrome, Opera, Firefox and Safari) show it as one of the great ones -
Back in the day I got them hooked on Opera (Presto) and they got another person hooked. Got them hooked on Vivaldi after Opera (Presto) went :RIP:.

Since I have found that MusicBee can be configured in a similar way as versatile as Vivaldi, I advertise in the MusicBee forum in my signature for Vivaldi and here in the Vivaldi forum I advertise in my signature for MusicBee.
(MusicBee plays music, podcast, audiobooks, radio, has a built-in browser and there are dozens of skins for MusicBee.
The player bar can be placed up or down.) -

Good app, but only for Windows. The alternative in Linux is Amarok for those who are interested in having a player of this type. -
@Catweazle Here's a tutorial on how to install MusicBee on Linux and Mac:

I also use Amarok in Ubuntu earlier. But Amarok does not have a built-in browser and synced lyrics.

@Catweazle Will you let me know if you have successfully installed MusicBee in your Kubuntu?

No, maybe I'll try later. For the time being, I am using the Amarok and Earbits Radio to listen to music while browsing, but I appreciate your interest

I'm from Opera (last update version 60) and I'm trying Vivaldi for first time.
I just have issues to use in tablet mode, no finger gestures, swipe in touchpad doesn't work.
I use on my Surface Go. -
@HealingCross Please read this article, then find out in an interview with Jon how many Vivaldi users there are:

Found myself in a bit of a browser discussion a moment ago and pitched Vivaldi. But apparently the guy I was talking to was already using it. Not sure if that counts as a success or not.

Sounds like success to me!
Now the two of you just need to find some more to join you.
Cheers,

Jon.Just yesterday I remembered what you say, when a user asked me how to do an advanced search in his browser.
Sometimes it is certainly difficult to convince people of the advantages of Vivaldi -
@luetage the biggest problem is the habit changing. I had that problem with a friend that is keeping with Firefox and another one with Chrome.
-
I'm a medicine student and well... All my friends and I are just focusing on competition. I remember one time they speak about browser, they just want to have a browser that function well ^^' and when I have try to show the advantage of mouse gestures to someone, the person found that weird ... Maybe I just speak with too simplistic people ahah.
I remember I saw a guy in my amphiteater that always have more than 20 tabs open, I should give him a word about Vivaldi -
My coworkers (500+ Employees).
I've got a few of them on board of our little string ensemble

@jon One of the problems I have now when recommending Vivaldi to other people is that they feel just fine using chrome. Vivaldi today still has some bugs here and there, and when my friends switch to it, suddenly amazon prime video is not working for them anymore, suddenly a chat window on HSBC is not working anymore, they will just switch back -- why not just use what everyone uses and save all the trouble.
I use Vivaldi, because I hate big monopolies manipulating their power on the internet. I don't think the majority of people care about that.
In terms of all the customizable features, they're nice, but many of them require some time to get used to before they become part of the habit. So they don't outweigh the bugs for most new users.
