Better Auto Scroll Speed

Bump,
because I too yearn for a custom scrolling speed feature.
However, on second thought, I should probably ask this on my Linux OS' forum, since scrolling speed should be able to be configured globally.Nevermind:

I like the visual cue idea.
Regarding scrolling speed, in Linux,
imwheel
is your very good friend.IMWheel is indeed super handy as you can configure different scrolling speeds for each separate application: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/IMWheel#Edit_your_configuration_file.

@oomek And does this still work in current 5.1 Snapshots and upcoming 5.1 Stable?
-
The native smooth scrolling speed is still not configurable, just the step is. I ended up using Wheel Smooth Scroller Extension.

A year has passed ans several Vivaldi releases since my initial question. Is there a chance for a smooth scrolling speed slider in 22 ?

@Oomek This is an OS Setting. In Windows, it looks like this:
Why do we need an independent setting for Vivaldi?
Have you ever used the fast scroll method? Middle-click then drag.

I see people still make the same mistake over and over again. This is not smooth scrolling speed. This is scrolling STEP.

I know it's apparently your job here to tell everyone how their preferences are so dumb because you, personally, don't do it that way. But for anyone else who might be confused and might actually be willing to learn something new: as Oomek explains, smooth scrolling speed is different from the distance or step.
You can have scrolling move X number of pixels or lines but have it do so slowly or you can have it do it quickly. Well, you can't in Vivaldi, that is. Hence this thread.
In addition to speed, there's also variable speed depending on where in the animation you're at. For example, you could have scrolling be extremely quick for the first half and then slowly settle down. Or the opposite: slowly ramp up speed, then quickly snap to its final destination. There's also acceleration: if you scroll while another scroll is in process, you scroll more than the sum of the two. This quickly adds up to very quick scrolling, indeed.
As for middle click and drag, there are downsides to this. Middle clicking can accidentally target elements on the page, such as a link. It's also much more fussy than smooth scrolling might be. Finally, it's difficult to tell where the middle-click scroll began. So you're quickly middle-click-scrolling up and wish to stop, slow down, or reverse, it's not always easy to know how far down you need to move your cursor. Mouse wheel scrolling is binary.

@Aelius Well, unlike you, I am not intentionally trying to be obnoxious. I usually have a reason for asking why someone needs a feature, or if they know about other methods. Often I post just to let everyone know that they might be waiting a long time for a feature request to be implemented. Again, I know that my reply may be helpful to others, if not to the OP, so I post it anyway.

I've merged discussion on this topic from a number of different places.
Also, the devs have indicated this is an "upstream" issue - I.e. it is one for chrome to fix and vivaldi unfortunately has no control over.
If you are active in chrome/chromium's feature requests you could ask there instead.
