Sorting of Bookmarks
-
I am a big fan of Vivaldi but I like to have all my bookmarks in alphabetical order which I find I cannot do in Vivaldi like I can in Chrome.
I left Chrome for a number of reasons but this problem is making me rethink that move. There are so many great things about Vivaldi, but there are some things that need to be fixed so it can be the top dog of the browsers.
Mod Edit: Shouting removed and typos fixed.

You need to learn how to use Vivaldi first, Bookmarks can be sorted in sidepanel, bookmarks. Choose Sort Manually to be able to move them around as you wish, or choose Sort by title (or anything your prefer from the choices) and also click on the arrow on the right of the sort method to change sort order from descending to ascending
-
@w4bms That's easy;
-
@w4bms Try this way of sorting:
- Copy URL: vivaldi://bookmarks/
- Open side panel ('F4')
- Press '+' ('Add Web Panel')
- Insert URL: vivaldi://bookmarks/
- Press '+' (near textbox field)
- It'll be run in builtin Chrome bookmarks.
- Use it as always in Chrome.
-
Open a blank tab/start page>click "bookmarks">rearrange to you hearts content.
You can easily create new folders. Use drag and drop. You get the picture. -
As mentioned above, there are already several ways to sort bookmarks.
Vote for the two popular feature requests to improve the Bookmarks Bar and Bookmarks Menu.

@RobKie It's not unusual, when users post an angry first thread, shouting and threatening to stop using the browser, that they get a reply which is not as polite as it could be.
It's not immediately apparent from the first post that w4bms wants to permanently sort the bookmarks. It is already possible to sort the bookmarks. A new user might not know that, so the advice given is helpful.
Vote for True Alphabetical Bookmarks Sorting if that's what you want.
I am quite happy with manually sorting in the Bookmarks Panel with Drag and Drop. Over the years, I have arranged my bookmarks just as I like them after importing those that I collected in Opera 12.18 over a decade.

iAn, maybe you did not intend to sound like this, but I find it pretty condescending.
You're correct, it was totally intentional. The OP sounded like a spoiled brat stomping his feet and whining, and in my house such behaviour only grants the opposite effects a brat would like to obtain.

I surely also have an issue with the bookmark management since my listing requirement is highly dynamic with daily additions over weekly to monthly time spans.
Most of my bookmarks are grouped in folders and when the listing gets too long I move them into a main _Old sub-folder before - eventually - deleting them.
However, there are mismatches between the two representations of bookmarks in terms of sorting order and manipulation
See capture below:
-1- Sorting
In the left column Bookmarks I need Sort Manually but the right column F4 vivaldi://bookmarks/ doesn't allow to represent the same order as the former. With many bookmarks , individual items in the left column simply disappear in the right.
-2- Manipulation
The left column doesn't allow to select more than one item at a time so they have to be moved individually, which - with many items - represent a repeated tedious task.My suggestions would be to have the same sort, selection and manipulation options for the two representations - i.e. in both columns it should be possible to:
- Display the same Manual Sort
- Select and manipulate more than one item
If you find this to be too much of a special-needs-case, then consider these aspects:
- Why have two different representations of bookmarks with different possibilities for sorting and manipulation?
- Imaging if we applied the same mismatch to the archaic Windows Explorer windows (or the equivalent for any other OS) - I think we would all scream even more than we already do
-
Hope it's ok to tag onto this thread.
Brand new user, literally installed it less than an hour ago, and I have a similar question about sorting bookmarks.I have lots of them, arranged in folders, sub-folders, sub-sub folders, etc.
Is it possible to "automatically" sort within a subfolder by, say, title?
The method might already be present, I just haven't been able to find it yet.
Thanks.

@beargfr It is all or none. Sorting is independent for the Bookmark Bar, the Bookmark Panel, or the Bookmark Tab, but if you want to sort a single folder, and not all folders, vote for True Alphabetical Sorting as posted above.
-
I see that we can sort the bookmarks from the panel, but we should be able to sort them from the bookmarks bar as well, otherwise what's the point?
-
@brewmaster Right-click on an empty part of the Bookmarks Bar to sort the bookmarks.

That only sorts the bar, I want to sort the bookmarks that are inside a folder that's on the bar.

These instructions appear not to work in version 3.7.2218.49 (Stable channel) (32-bit).
Opening a new tab and clicking "Bookmarks" in the File Edit View Bookmarks ... menu merely drops down a menu of bookmarks with no ability to dragg them around.
Added: I see now that all the book If I reverse the sort order while in Bookmarks Manager, the dropd own Bookmarks menu sort is reversed. I am unable to turn off sorting.
Solved From luetage's remark at
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/23187/bookmarks-breaks-the-manual-sorting/2 I learnedYou are on the bookmarks page and you have pressed Title, now your bookmarks are sorted according to title. To undo this you have to press Title 2 more times, then the arrow disappears and manual sorting is displayed again.

@enyap Para-Noid's suggestion is about clicking
Bookmarks
in Start Page Navigation (i.e. open Bookmarks Manager), not in Vivaldi menu (File, Edit, View, Bookmarks…). -
I get the same behavior whan I go to vivaldi://bookmarks. Both access methods appear to open the same Bookmarks Manager.
