Vivaldi Feature Requests Thread Changed
-
I periodically visit the Vivaldi features request thread to participate. To (sort of) keep track of where I left off the last time I visited, I make a note of the last page number I visited. On August 6th, it was page 49 of 49.
I just visited the thread and there are only 35 pages and only 5 in the archived list. Did someone clean up deleted posts, etc.?
Did I miss something?
I just saw the new subcategories for feature requests and the part about deleted and duplicate requests. Is that what happened?
In any case, these new categories are a great improvement!

Many of the existing threads were moved to the newly created categories - that's why the number of threads in the main category decreased.

@pesala Thank you both for the replies. I suspected it was something like that. It is a big improvement and will probably result in less duplicate requests in the future.
But, when I come to the feature requests every so often (not all the time like you do), is there any way for me to "select" or "view" everything that's changed since my last visit? This was already an issue before, because posts move to the top every time someone replies to them.
It would be great if there was some sort of date filter I could apply that would show me everything newer than that date. I can make a forum feature request for this if you think that would be useful to others.

This is just one of the reasons why the feature request forum is worse than before. Formerly, one could simply use the default sort order by Newest to Oldest, and those that were new or had new replies were at the top. New threads since your last visit could be spotted by their timestamps:
Now you can only see the newest posts per category or those with no category.
You can create a custom search for all categories or none limited by date, but you won't get any results unless you enter a word for which to search. Common words like "the" are ignored by the search, so that won't help.
As well as just as many duplicates, we now also see threads posted in the wrong category.¹ E.g. a thread about themes posted in bookmarks. It does not help, in my opinion. Searching is still the best way to find threads as they could be posted in any category.
¹ It's often not clear-cut which category is the right one, and some users might think they need to post it in more than one.

Lovely. Well you're the ones who have to use it every day and make it a very much better place with your efforts, so it should be arranged to make your job easier, not harder.
From this, I take it that it wasn't your idea to do it this new way. I certainly hope you were at least consulted by whomever did it before it was implemented.

Still wondering why there isn't a speed dial or sessions categories
-
@hadden89 They could all be included in the Bookmarks category. There are currently about 40 threads tagged with speed dial that are not already in the Bookmarks category.

It's also not bullet proof and has its own quirks, but I find it more useful than going through a bunch of forums to find out what's new...
I'm not sure if really old posts will be considered unread or if there's a threshold, but maybe this works for you too. -
@pauloaguia OK, but how do I do that? I see my icon in the upper corner that says I'm logged in, but I don't see a Follow button anywhere. I did check watch topics I reply to in addition to watch topics I start which was already checked. What am I missing? Thanks.
