Vivaldi and CUPS 2.2.7 authentication issue
-
Just a heads up:
Just ran into a known issue: In Ubuntu 18.04: you can't do any privileged stuff in the CUPS web interface (localhost:631). It's an issue with chrome and it affects Vivaldi.
For now, the workaround is to use a non-chrome browser such as Firefox.
Details here.

Hey guys,
the problem still exists.
Is there meanwhile maybe a workaround for this issue. It's quite annoying to have to change always to FF, if you want to change same settings for the printers.
Thanks in advance!

@chipy There's an "Open in Vivaldi" add-on for Firefox. Now, we need an "Open in Firefox" add-on for Vivaldi.

@luetage Thanks! I was half joking, but I really need it now for an unrelated problem. I print a lot of web pages. Lately, all I get in Vivaldi on most pages is something about loading page, please wait. Opening the same page and printing in Firefox 52 works fine.

I just checked the cups admin interface, because I had to print quite a few things today. Login works without a problem – but I'm on CUPS 2.2.1.

@Gwen-Dragon Thanks for the research. I just read through it and came away confused.
I think what they said is that CUPS does weird, but legal stuff that nobody supports, so we won't either. And, maybe, CUPS is fixing it so we don't have to.
Do you understand this more than I did?
All I know is that it still doesn't work and I'm not even sure who, if anyone, I should be asking to fix it.

Thanks. Just tried that with 2.3.0 from source and broke CUPS. Just put 2.2.7 back.
But that's off topic for this forum.Looks like I'll just have to deal with it until I do an upgrade - probably to kubuntu 20.04.1. Oh well ...

Thanks. I know, but that's easier said than done. I might have to upgrade to 18.10 first and I'm not sure that's still available. I only do clean installs when I have to because it takes me a couple of weeks to get everything configured again from scratch. That would also force me to upgrade to 19.10 when it comes out - so a lot of extra work.
For something minor like this, it's not worth it to me. I can just use Waterfox if I have to.
