Solved Rename Tabs

I rename every day Tab Stacks with a keyboard shortcut with no issues.

Settings -> Keyboard -> Tab -> Rename Tab Stack -> (make your shortcut)

Fundamental for my workflow.

This is really impractical and I'm not going to do this for every tab I want to rename.

You are wrong. You have to rename only by domain.

Search for: " | Vivaldi Forum" and Replace with: "" (nothing)

Clarification:

You have to do it ONLY ONCE per domain and all the pages of that domain will be modified automatically.

I hope this comes natively to the browser without needing an extension. It would be safer.

The use for renaming tabs that I would find most useful is to shorten the tab name and strip out characters that make the title long. This would be most welcome when looking at pinned tabs in the Workspaces panel. Currently the list looks cluttered with some tabs having long titles. By renaming them we could force sorting too, and that would allow us to group tabs next to each other.

@barbudo2005 Thank you. I guess I'm nervous to try this because I don't understand how the scripts work. That people have found a way to do it means Vivaldi can make it native, so I hope they do eventually.

Hi, if you want to test the snapshot on Windows use a Standalone install, this is independent to your default install.
Not needed on Linux but I am not sure about MacOS, it's a Linux anyway so I guess it is independent there too.

Hi, I just tried out this feature on snapshot 6.9.3405. There seems to be an issue with renaming tabs not working when the selected tab is inside a tab stack.

On normal tabs, the rename button shows up and works normally.

However, when I try to rename a tab INSIDE a tab stack, the rename button doesn't show.

@kzha0 It's a known issue with Accordion Tab Stacks. The rename option is available with Compact and Two-Level Tab Stacks.
Unfortunately, I don't know when the bug will be fixed with Accordion option.

You can also use Quick Commands to rename active tabs or create a Keyboard Shortcut or a Mouse Gesture for the action.

Today we released Vivaldi 6.9, which offers the ability to rename all Tabs (in addition to Tab Stacks).
