I think Workspaces are a "kind" of Windows, so will be very soon.

No, You don't have. In the last update Vivaldi introduced Workspaces.

You have several tab bars one for work, one for leisure, one for Vivaldi forum, etc. and you only see one at a time.

                Better than Windows. Try them.

On top of what @barbudo2005 already said about Workspaces, this request is now also in the Pipeline, meaning that it might be around soon (probably not in the next few releases, but at least it's already being planned to do it)

@pauloaguia How long will it take? 1 year, 2 years?

It will be 5 years since this feature is requested.

PLEASE implement this in a way that also solves my version of this problem. On my work computer, I have a time tracker program, which can auto-filter or auto-tag time based on the active program and document. It captures window titles and document names. I currently use 2 browsers -- my favourite, Vivaldi, for work, and an inferior one for breaktime -- so that these functions are clearly distinguished for my timesheets. In some cases, I also use different accounts on the same services (e.g. Microsoft, Google) for work versus play.

If Vivaldi could both keep track of accounts and sessions (maybe via People or Workspaces?) AND change the window title based on which Person or Workspace this is, or a custom string, then I could probably use Vivaldi for both kinds of browsing, while being able to tell them apart in my time tracker. That would make me very happy as Vivaldi's tab management features are SO much better than every other browser tried.

The development team never gives out estimates... but if it's in the pipeline already, I'd expect it to come out this year still...

Hi. I am testing Vivaldi for the people in my department.

We are not interested in Workspaces at all. We all have multiple monitors, deal with multiple topics, and need multiple windows. It's as simple as that. We are not interested in single-window solutions.

On the other hand, if it takes five years to implement a, ahem, function like this, I don't want to think about what will happen with something that has a minimum of complexity.

I suppose the developers of this browser will have their priorities. Mine is to provide an effective solution. We'll stick with Edge. Unfortunately.

I don't think naming windows would take much space. Just a minute fraction of the space to open a single tab

I don't see how workspaces would work for me.
I currently have about 7 windows open, with 3 to 100+ tabs.
I use a tab manager with horizontal display and annotation for those with many tabs. The 3-tab window is the exception.
In the menu selection, I can see all the windows, with the name of the current tab. Instead I would like to see the name of the window. How would that work with work spaces ?

Workspaces come to replace the use of Windows. You have a single window with workspaces inside it.

                                  I have four:

                                  7320a075-dc4d-4153-87a5-19bfe78aa563-image.png

You can switch between them with the image menu, using buttons or mouse gestures.

I see from your image that workspaces can be selected with a drop-down menu, which is nice. Avoids taking too much space in the tab bar.

Often I put a tab (or usually several tabs) in the wrong window. With multiple windows, it can be time-consuming to correct.
How easy is it transfer tabs between work spaces ?

Since I have hundreds of tabs in some windows, I use a tab manager with annotations to display tabs vertically. The annotations let me see useful infos that don't appear in the tab name. I have to test how work spaces will function with annotations, particularly if I transfer tabs between work spaces.
(I still need the horizontal tab bar to rearrange tabs in the same window, I assume also with work spaces.)

There are tab managers outside Vivaldi at least as useful as Vivaldi tab management functions. A plus for other tab managers is that they display in a separate window.

It seems to me that your needs almost require a separate instance of navigator. Why not use Chome or Chromium with appropriate extensions. That way the separation you seek is guarantied. Not as good as Vivaldi but in most respects comparable.

Using (short) workspace names is a little easier than tranfering between windows, with often very long tab names for the destination.
                                          Nice 🙂
