Locking Pinned Tabs
-
@Pesala That's not a good solution tho, if seeing the unread notification icon on the tab is useful (which it is). I pin tabs because I go to them frequently and not all pages will render as well as a panel (gmail, for instance).
Also, with this as a workaround, what would the use of a pinned tab be then?

@jaydeflix The purpose of pinned tabs will be what it always was — a way to prevent accidental closure of currently needed tabs. A web panel is a more permanent thing. I have one for Vivaldi Feature Request searches.
As I pointed out earlier, workarounds are all that you are likely to have for some time. The thread is still not tagged as In Progress or Pipeline, though it currently has 52 votes.
Unread notifications are also shown on Web Panels. I have not use Linked In. Some sites only work well if you right-click to select the Desktop version, and/or expand the panel and/or allow a separate width.

@jaydeflix I have not been using pinned tabs actively, so I don't know if this advice is relevant. The desired behavior you describe, is one I use almost every day. I hate 'spelling as you type', so when I have to look up an english word, I enter the word in the search field, press enter and it opens duckduckgo in a new tab.

I have the same need as the OP: Lock Tab to its current page. I would primarily use this on Pinned tabs where the two concepts merge perfectly into: "KEEP THIS PAGE UP". Because in complex projects that's exactly what I need.
I've upvoted the original request and the others here that repeated it. I forgot to upvote those telling us that Lock Tab isn't necessary.

I think the lock tab part is missing here to.
It feels like a half baked feature as it is now with the pinning being "lost" if you accidently press a bookmark or write an address in the address field while the pinned tab is selected. It should stick to the pinned tab unless the bookmark or typed adress is also in the same domain.

Restricting a pinned tab to its domain would be very useful.
I often use pinned tabs for manuals (administration and programming) and dislike that some links leaving the domain, but open in same pinned tab.
-
it´s terrible always to remember: here i have to use this key combination and here not. you regularly accidentally open a new page inside the same pinned tab, which is against every logic. i really hope vivaldi understands the need here (someday). it´s no rocket science and a substantial live improvement for all mankind ;-))

@Pesala asked me to share in this thread my idea from another thread I made (https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/59013/power-lock-tab/3?lang=en-US). Content below. Hope this will empower this thread as well.
I'd like to request a 'tab lock' feature, which is different from pinning in a lot of ways. Some specific functions I have in mind are:
lock tab so that it won't autorefresh/autoreload
lock tab so it won't get suspended
lock tab so no reloads are allowed
lock tab so that it won't get closed
lock tab so that closing Vivaldi will trigger a warning because of a current 'locked' tab
lock tab so that opening a different URL inside that tab will open instead to a new tab and leave the current locked tab unharmed
lock tab position so that it stays in that area, i.e., not allowed to be dragged somewhere else
lock tab so that only one instance of that domain/URL is allowed
These are just some of the thoughts I've collected for this idea.Implementation:
-maybe they will appear as tickboxes when you right-click a tab? which means all of them can be active at the same time, or only one of them.Reason:
-currently I use several extensions to match those needs. It's heavy and clunky and just not efficient at all. Thanks much!

Great idea and much needed feature to lock a pinned tab!
